Latest edition of Road & Track magazine (December 2005) has a detailed comparison test of Z06 and SRT10. It's an easy win for the cheaper and better engineered Corvette which is "...a more complete, satisfying and well rounded package". Viper fans wil not be disappointed though as the SRT10 coupe is more of a challenge to drive and will be a rarer sight on the road in USA.

The Viper has 1% more power and about 12% more torque but is hampered by 10% more weight. Performance stat's are stunning for the pair,

0 - 60 mph. Z06 = 3.9 Viper = 4.2
0 - 100 mph. Z06 = 8.8 Viper = 9.3
1/4 mile. Z06 = 12.2 @120.7 Viper = 12.3 @118.3
Brake from 60 mph. Z06 = 109 ft Viper = 113 ft
Skidpad. Z06 = 0.99g Viper = 0.97g
Est economy. Z06 = 20 mpg (UK) Viper = 16 mpg (UK)

US base price of $65,000 for the Z06 looks great value provided you've got the cash! Viper is $83,000. Lotus Elise starts at $40,000.

Now if I could buy a Z06 in UK for 1.5 X Elise price...

If you can buy a Z06 for immediate delivery in the USA for list price you'll be lucky too! On autotrader.com Z06s are being advertised for between $80k-$90k....
Although there is one guy selling them for $68,800...

I WANT ONE!

Do the US use a different calender or something? why are they always so far ahead?

They don't have registration letters in the US. They define the cars by "model years". The 2006 model year starts production in late August and sales start in September or thereabouts. This is why you have to be careful when importing a car from the US that you're really getting the year car you think you're buying and not one registered the previous year. This means you can have a 2006 model year car registered in September but still have a 2005 model year car registered in October.
