Sitting of an evening i like nothing better than a can of Guinness, however of late it has been a lottery, a beer in the lap of the widget gods. Sometimes i get a flacid "depth charge" on opening and end up with a flat pint. Necesitating the opening of another. Marketing or just bad engineering.

Various opening techniques have been explored, the good firm open in one movement seems to yeald the best results. But still one in 6 or so is a non starter.

Anybody else seen this, do i have a right for replacement?

Well, if you've drunk it anyway, I'd say your chances have sozzled away

I think that the widget works when there is a rapid change in pressure, so an all-in-one snap open would yeild the best results rather than a slow, long pressure releasing move.

Could be totally wrong here though.

IMHO you'll find you get this when the can is not chilled enough. If it's cold enough (I think they say 2 hrs on the can) then it's usually fine..... I've certainly found whenit's otherwise I get the "flat tyre" effect!!!

I'm sure the taste has changed in the last few months. Doesn't seem quite as smooth as it used to, it's got a hint of fizz like the old style Guinness.

Cans are cold always 24hrs. I have a large fridge.

Vixpy. Guinness is not Beer! Guinness is good for you. It says so on the posters and with the current legislation on alcohol marketing it must be true.

I have one here, cold borderline very cold, a firm grip good hard opening motion and smoothly poured into a one pint glass allowing for a little head out of the metric can. Bingo. B.E.A.U.tiful. Just settling now.

Practise makes perfect. I agree Ted the can is fizzier on the tongue. Also says brewed under licence in the UK, so therefore is not one of the post May 2005 cans at which point all Guinness is brewed only at St James' Gate. Guinness at the tap i have noticed to be smoother since that date.

I've noticed the adverts now say 'brewed in Dublin'.

Maybe that's why it tastes different?

so does that mean that all guinness sold in the UK is now brewed in Dublin? Must get back into practice - got to admit, with the onset of autumn/winter, i usually revert to Guinness ales/bitter anyway...

Probably well off the mark but the English supply used to be brewed in Park Royal I think. Factory closed and all production is now in Dublin?

Just had a few G's tonight!

Some people swear it tastes better in Ireland; I'm not so sure. I reckon it depends on a number of things including your mood, how much work you've done etc etc.
Certainly it does vary in flavour depending on the pipework of the pub you're in; I wouldn't fancy its chances out of tinnies though...

Yes. Guinness is my tipple of choice when out, but I've stopped drinking it from cans years ago. It's just not the same.

In this country at least (and I'm pretty sure the rest of Europe) this cannot be said anymore. Yes Guinness is full of iron and stuff, but drinking quantities is deffinatly not good for you. The old signs can survive in places as memoribilia and you can buy copies in the guinness shop that have disclaimers on them for the Americans.

Yes indeedy, you guys now get proper Guinness. Adagio are in a downsizing mood at the moment and Dublin has the capacity. Plus there is the marketing advantage of the "Brewed in Dublin - The home of Guinness" advantage.

It does. I try a Guinness everywhere I go, without fail. Nothing beats coming home to a Guinness. It's like your own bed. Nothing beats it.
