Something I've often wondered at:

I'm talking in particular about threads like "Israel Vs Palestine" "Foxhunting" "Cyclists" etc etc, and not just here, but on all forums. In fact, PH seems to be a relative haven of (mostly) sensible posters

Why do they always end up in flamewars? Is it the lack of body language? A sense of superiority and protection gained from sitting behind a keyboard? The fact that sarcasm never really works in text?

Take this faintly insane thread on a cycling forum. Why would someone trawl through another forum, on a subject they clearly hate just to find something to rant about?

It reminds me of this video, which is constantly proved to be excellent observation: http://gprime.net/video.php/reallifev

Anyway, discuss. And of course, anyone who disagrees with me is worse than Hitler

It was the best thread ever to end in vicious handbaggery. I think it was about recruitment or something and resulted in some comedy insults and a lot of photoshopping.

Probably for the same reasons people shout insults when they are in cars, or when arguements start when your pissed. People feel safe and lose their inhibitions. Couple that to a lack of body languabe and you have all the ingredients for a virtual up.

Right, now let me at those evolutionists

Shame really. You get a good debate and then someone gets all 'My opinion is the right one' and starts making crass comments they would never make in real life then it all goes pear shaped.

What saddens me about this type of them and us ding-doing is that I know of no motoring enthusiast who actually wants to see pedestrians or cyclists killed on our roads (despite what is being claimed by the people over there).

Every single fatality is a tragedy and what it makes it more so is the nonsense that if we only slowed cars down more (or imposed further restrictions on car use) these problems would be solved.

When I am a driver, cyclist, or pedestrian I take responsibility for my own safety. What is so hard about asking others to do the same?

We need a jay-walk offence for pedestrians and a compaign to ensure that cyclists are licensed/taxed/insured before they can use the roads.

Not that stupid. I was thinking the same thing myself. Have to register to view profile, and I couldn't be bothered.

not intending to flame any comment you have just written, but licensing will not work on pushbikes due to when would it be needed age restriction wise, once a child loses the stabilisers?

insured? why should the child pay for insurance on his bike or for others? we never had to as children?

road tax? should anyone have to pay this anyway?

agree on the idea of a jay walk offence but this would require police available to detect it occuring, capture the individual, fine them and then would they be escorted to a cash point? or would they be given a fine, as we dont carry ID cards in this country (thank god) cant see what would stop you giving false ID and legging it from the copper

again not singling you out for a hit back just the comments you had put down where easier to answer than some of the other previous posting :-D
