Can anybody advise what advance cam and springs are required to change the advance curve on a standard 1000cc/1300cc 45D4 distributor (None Elec Ignition) - to something suitable for the MG Metro (CAM6648) Camshaft & 9.5/10 to 1 Comp ratio.

Anybody any experience of doing soemthing similar to this?? Are new bob weights needed too?

Any help would be appreciated.

I always speak with Aldon Automotive and get them to re-curve my dizzys to suit specific build specs. If you already have th basic dizzy they will rebuild it with all new bits and with an advance curve to suit for less than c.£100. The custom one they did for my 'S' showed a really marked improvement and the increased mechanical advance meant that even with 11.1:1 c.r it would still start with max advance set correctly for the top end. I think they gave it an extra 4 deg mech advance over and above their 'Red' unit with max advance coming in at about 4250 rpm (that's from memory). Before they did this I had to retard it to get it to turn over on the key when hot, then the top end was a bit retarded.

Aldon have quoted £40+VAT for tailoring the advance curve on the Dizzy providing it is good condition. Thank you for the tip - Aldon are not too far for me either. I think even though this is a budget build, this is one thing I'll spend some decent money on.

They have done several for me over the past few years and I can't recommend them too highly. Very fast turnaround when you send your old unit by post as I have to. They came back like new if you have the full rebuild as I always do. Last one cost me £65 +VAT and it had all new bushes, new points and condenser, re-curved advance mechanism and it was so clean it looked great.
