The council tax reviews are going to take into account anyone that has a home with a nice view.

"Council tax bills could be increased in England if properties have a scenic view or have golf courses or swimming pools nearby, it is reported.

Homes too in conservation areas or open spaces could see higher bills, say the Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Express.

Having a swimming pool or tennis court or having full or partial views of the sea, hills, mountains, lakes or rivers, could add a premium to bills, both papers say."

This story seems a bit hysterical to me.

If you have a revlaution then you value the property, a nice view increases that value.

I doubt they will be coming round to everyones house and checking out the view from each room.

If they do, then I will put frosted glass on the windows that have a nice view, then remove it when they have gone

Hardly fair though, i don't see how having a nice view translates into using more public services.

The sooner these fu**ers p*ss off out of government the better. Why is it that just when you think things cannot get any worse, when you feel that stupidity has gone far enough....something proves you wrong!!

I am waiting for the tax on windows to come back sometime soon, followed by length of drive tax and height of chimney tax!!

It doesn't ,in much the same way that a couple with two kids living in a nice house probably use less public sevices than a family of eight in a cheaper house.Go on, guess who pays more.

Something similar was tried a couple of hundred years ago.

It was called window tax.

And, incidentally, it originated the phrase "daylight robbery".

Nice to see the current crop of thieves has progressed.

So if you look over a gasworks would you get a reduction?

Or would they charge more as you are overlooking a site of industrial beauty?

K

For the record I don't look over a gasworks

Hmmm, my house enjoys lovely extensive views over the rolling Pennine hills, however if I look to the right there are a couple of gasometers in view in the distance, perhaps I should rotate my home 45 degrees.....

Who cares who introduced it, all I care about is the fact that under labour since 1997 it's increased by over 400% in my area.

Oh, but they will. Hand in hand with this goes the new home sellers pack which fat Boy Prescott's department is still pressing for. Along with 16 other obligatory forms to fill in, every one of these packs must contain a house survey prepared by a "Government approved inspector"

Since relatively few houses now stay within the same family from generation to generation, it is therefore just a matter of time until central government has a description of every home in the land.

Bet all you labour voters don't feel so smug now do you?

...more tax...surely not...this seems almost as if it could be a socialist-inspired tax on more desirable and thus more expensive property.

You really must keep up minicity.....in 1997 the conservatives lost the general election since then a Labour government have been in power.
