I went to a great Fireworks display tonight
Discussion
Every year around bonfire night there is a fireworks display on Blackheath.
The wife and I went this year(missed most of it last year) and thoroughly enjoyed it; it is the biggest fireworks show I have seen (around 20 minutes of continuous fireworks) has anyone else been to a fireworks display tonight?.

Thumbs up for Ascot.
Except for the funfair they had - it was all squashed up together - so there was no room to walk around, considering 7k people there.
And nearly got bogged down in the car park ... our friend did, so we had to push her out.
A photographer from the Bracknell Gazette took a few pics of the Family Kinky with the fireworks going off in the background .... hopefully it'll get published.

Terrible traffic jams to get in, a long trudge in the dark and mud from the carpark to the viewing area, standing around for 30+ mins with our son asking "is it starting yet?" ever 30 secs for the duration, 30 mins of fireworks which frankly got boring after a while (you can only say "ooh" so many times) followed by a complete rugby scrum to get back to the car, horrendous jams to get out of the carpark and then a drive home.
Well I wanted to take the kids to a cracking firework display at Wellington Country Park.
This is why we've spent £30-odd on a firework selection every year since and had our own little display at home instead. Job done. And we all got to watch X-Factor too.

There was a big crush of people coming back from the fireworks display on Blackheath.
My wife and I didn't mind, it allows us to practice crowd overtaking.
Spot the gap and accelerate into it, go into the road to get around large groups, and so on.
We felt a great sense of achievement when we got in front of everyone and had a clear road all the rest of the way back to the car.

I went to the display in Crowborough, Sussex, totally free, although option to give donation to Charity, and the display lasted 35 minutes.
Some truely spectactular effects a waterfall of fireworks with cathering wheels to the front then some single shot mortars spraying more fireworks into the air in front of it.
Fantastic.

Still better than "The X-Factor" though.

I think I saw you! As you were travelling down into Greenwich some guy muttered something at you whilst another oncoming car was waiting to squeeze through.
edit: just to say that, yeah, the crackers were mega tongiht.

Saw the Sevenoaks one tonight (as per the last 7 years or so). Waxed rope-type torches are available at the bus stop in the middle of town, and once most people have got them lit up successfully (needed blowtorches tonight as it was very windy), the main road is shut to traffic and there's a cool torchlit procession through town to one of the Sevenoaks School playing fields.
Big, mental bonfire in the field (the high winds tonight made it very lairy, sooty clouds of flame blowing well into the crowd
) and then a decent, long firework display.
They cut back on some of the creative things in previous years (mainly standing displays such as catherine wheels, mounted roman candles, 'tanks' firing mortars at each other, etc.) but we got more rockets. Big, beautiful and incredibly impressive rockets. Bloody marvellous, look forward to it every year

Must remember to thank all the neighbours ...
Quite, it was like downtown Beirut here last night. Although funnily enough, one of the neighbours was actually decent enough to put notes through everyone's doors saying they would be having a display for twenty minutes at 9 o'clock and hoped we didn't mind, which I found pretty impressive for London.
Still, there are another 200 plus neighbours who didn't do this and had some of the loudest fireworks I have heard in a long time.

I was going towards and past the sun in the sands roundabout so I doubt it

Also did that a few years ago & got jammed in when leaving (& we were on a m/cycle!). Now go to one in Hawley that's put on by the army (over a lake ala WCP). Friday night was a good display, well worth going. Haven't seen it advertised ever, it all seems to be word of mouth, so there's no huge crowds to contend with.
