Nottingham Madness

Just left Nottingham on the road to Carlton. When did they put all those red arrow black arrow road narrowers in? (You know, making a two way street one way in parts)
It must be hell on earth in the rush hour!
(and don't even start me on the rephasing of the pedestrian traffic lights outside the Victoria Centre: somebody is going to get squished there for sure!)

Was doing a job for Health and Safety bods last week and pointed this out. They did not seem to see it was problematic and explained how it worked. Every pedestrian I have talked about it to thinks that it is confusing. I'm suprised no one has been hit there yet.
I haven't seen the priority traffic signage on the way to Carlton yet. I usually join the Carlton Road at top of the hiil, past Shell garage.
Nottingham has been anti cars for years and now they are simply coming out more.
I gather slab square has been ripped up and some sort of expensive new waste of rates is being installed for the all night drinkers to vomit over. So many drunks puking and fornicating all over the place in the early hours that they have to stop the trams and dare not let cars move too far to often.
Other than the odd PH night out and taxi activity for the kids I try to avoid the place like I would a plague city.
Thankfully the kids are away now much of the year so the drop off and late night collection journeys are much reduced as well.

I avoid the place to. Very anti-motorist and all they want is revenue from parking fines and camera's. They are also to focused on trams and park & ride schemes so cars just aren't welcome anymore.

T'would appear that way...those chicanes on the way to Carlton are ridiculous!
..but they obviously don't like pedestrians either, judging by the crossing at the Vic Centre!
I live in Carlton and i now do my best to aviod the city, as it's absolute chaos. Gridlock is just round the corner. The town planners have totally lost the plot. Nottm is getting to be just a mass of cameras , chicanes, ramps, road narrowing, humps and whatever else they can think off. In the Nottm Evening post this week, the council announced they are to stop the 5 min grace for people stopping on yellow lines to get a news paper or pick someone up. They are just money grabbing maggots, meanwhile, we have some of the worst crime in England, city senior schools that are some of the worst performing in the country.

Is it true someone told me that for every 1 man in Nottingham there are 10 girls !
No sadly not, in fact on a saturday evening when busloads of blokes come from around the country looking for the girl surpluss it is the other way around.
Origin of the myth is, apparently, that when Nottingham was the centre of the UK lace industry there was far more women than men because of all the seamstresses or whatever the word is.

...and Players cigarettes employed mostly lasses too! (lasses, not lassies). Even as recently as 20 years ago a Thursday night out in Nottingham was something to behold!
