First off, at 21 I hate you!! Only joking, but a Sagg at 21? Respect!
Speak with Cyberhuss, he had a fairly new Tuscan at 18 so should know a thing or 2 about performance car insurance at such a young age.

Sorry can't help,I bought a new mx5 while living in UK at 21 and it cost me 2500 UKP to insure,so if you can afford the Sag,i'm sure you can afford the 10k insurance.

Jesus, a Sag at 21

Fair play to you, but please be careful. Think being a named driver on your parents policy would be the only option but I could be wrong. As zippee said, have a word with Cyberhuss.

Best of luck with it

and I am most envious, ya git!

Good advice.

But do NOT go named driver route. The insurance company will laugh at you if you claim.

I'd talk to AdamT too- 19 and insured on 150 grands worth of RUF R turbo. (he's also quite possibly the most down to earth chap I've ever spoken to)

Don't know him but I do know someone of a similar age who's insured on his Dads 360 and DB9, again one of the most down to earth chaps out there. Still insanely jealous though!

21 shouldn't be a problem as long as you are prepared to pay a lot of money. Probably around £2.5K if you have max NCB for your age. If not probably a lot more. Try elephant.co.uk online and Tesco. They would qoute me on anything as long as I had the cash. Other insurers such as Mannings, Sunnighill, Peart, Privledge won't go near you until you're 25 at least, if not 30. I got my S at 22 and even with that car worth £6.5K it was tough for insurance.

Why not go on line and get a few insurance quotes from those that offer on line quoutes eg Tesco, Sainsbury's, Elephant. This might give you an idea of price, and if they all come bakc with the dreaded 'we are unable to process your quote on line' spiel, then this might suggest that they won't insure you. I would'nt worry though, you will be able to get insurance from someone, but it might cost ya!

good luck with the Sagaris purchase

Errr, Privilege will go near you.
I've been with Privilege for years now (since i was 22 i think) because every year i phone everyone and every year they're the cheapest.
Try confused.com to get a range of quotes (it's like the google of car insurance - put your details in once and they do all the legwork) and give privilege a bell.

The best anyone has come up with for me on my 993tt (daily driver, unlimited mileage, etc.) is almost £2k, some as high as £6k, and most won't insure me because i'm under 30.
With Privilege i pay less than £1k (just!).

Good luck!

Buying a very powerful rear wheel drive car at that age is likely to put the frighteners into any insurer I would have thought. Partly because of your age (I think there's a perception that young male drivers tend to be relatively incautious) and partly because of the implied lack of experience. It might help address both of these concerns by getting performance driver training and also some roadcraft driving qualifications e.g. from RoSPA or IAM. As a bonus, they will probably increase your life expectancy significantly too.

Insurers wised up to this ruse years ago. Generally they'll derive the premium from the highest risk driver, regardless of whose name the policy's in.
You could buy a Fiat Panda, insure that, leave it on the drive, and insure the Sag as a 'second car' though...

With Elephant and a couple of other companies try putting your parents as named drivers on your policy. When I did this a few years ago it reduced the premium, and by a decent amount. Presumably they assume that my lower-risk parents would be sharing usage of the car and this lowered the price.

Good luck!

£2.5k? I think that's what pwig paid for his £2000 Rover turbo coupe! Polerbeart pays around that for his Clio 182 @21-22 years old. My brother pays £1500 for a BMW 328i @ 21. I'll be amazed if he gets a quote under 5 large. Agree that Cyberhuss is your man to talk to- drop him a mail for some advice.

TVRs do seem remarkably cheap to insure. Strange considering the cost of fibreglass repair (or percentage of write offs due to fibreglass body). Compared to Rover turbos, Beemers etc it wouldnt surprise me if a TVR was cheaper. Not sure on £2500 myself still though...

If I was an insurer I would want £50k per year to insure a saggy for a 21 year old. and I'd still be worried

Hmmm.... when I was 21-22 I paid £1500 fully comp for my S3, parked on the street in Newcastle City Centre. At 23 I paid just under £1K for the Griff.

When I was 22 Tesco were willing to insure me on a 4.2 Cerbera for £1500 but wanted £2800 to insure me on an M3 of the same value. Go figure.

I wouldn't insure you.

At 21 you (probably) don't have enough experience with this sort of car. And you shouldn't be able to afford it. At that age I was dreaming of owning a 2nd hand Mini!
