One for the NTL/TV boffins...

I've got NTL cable tv at home, and quite fancy setting up a cheap PVR (similar to Sky+).

Can't go down the Sky+ route as I'm in a flat and won't be able to get permission to install the dish without paying the maintenance theives a large sum for a standard letter telling me it's ok.

Ideally I'd like to connect an eyeTV to my Mac, and watch stuff on my eyeHome.
The eyeTV has a cable socket, same as the NTL set-top box. From what I've read I can't just put the cable in and expect it to work as NTL uses some proprietry codec.

The other option is to take a scart from an NTL box into a TV tuner card and get some kind of remote control that will change the NTL channel for me at the required time.

Does anyone know a way of either decoding the cable signal, or controlling the NTL box?
Or any other ideas (cheap ones, don't want to be buying a windoze media toilet pc)?

Thanks.

I didn't realise you'd be willing to drive down from the moors at short notice. Not to worry, I'll text you every time I leave the house now. And every time I go in, in case you want to pop round and plump my pillows

Oh no, I think I still might have Jims mixed up in my dog , in which case I may have called you a C t a few times. And asked someone who barely drives about stroke ratios and lubrication.

Does your number end in 60, 71, 91 or 59?

59...

Think you may get me mixed up with another Jim occasionally, hence the confused look on your face in the Tup on your birthday...

Only momentarily though - it was nice to see you both You should have stayed out, if only to see the bouncer in Ha Ha fighting off women with video phones. Now I know how Harry Secombe feels.

Would have done, only had already made plans for the evening so we only dropped in on the way to a prior engagement. Ended up pissed as a fart in the Kings Head.

Whens the next Guildford meet?

Dunno - give me a bell whenever you're in town and fancy a beer though Nelly's usually kicking about too.

ZephIR and IRTrans are what you are looking for. There are lots of ways to configure it though. You may be better off getting a lifetime subscription TIVo off ebay if you don't like fiddling.
