Does this seem worth it? Just under £400.00 for the truck and starter kit.
Tempted by this one or the starter build. Anyone got one??
Thanks in advance.
Gavin.

I had a car version, it was such good fun
. I would however advise after my experience to go down to your local model shop and see what they have - I bought my car for about £250, but it wasn't set up properly so I had to have all the settings adjusted and have it race tuned before I could even use it. You are also likely to get a better deal at your local model shop if you buy some extras (e.g. new body shell, wheels, tyres, exhaust etc etc). And if you pay cash you might get yourself a tidy discount

.I agree...having had several helicopters and RC cars, I can only agree that having a good relationship with your local hobby store is cheaper in the long run. You will crash it and strew bits all over so its good to have a good supplier.
Besides, its good to support your local industry!

Do take into account repair costs. They are huge fun (till mine was stolen
), but all I have left is the rear wheel, hub, wishbones, spring+strut and the half of the diff casing that they were attached to, all still attached to each other. Just clipped a curb in the local carpark! Expensive to fix though.

I had a Savage 25 until earlier in the year - mine was one of the first ones (Imported from the US). Great fun, but make sure you pay the right money. Mine was £235 delivered from Tower Hobbies in the USA.
They go like stink and are tough as hell but the engines can be a bit picky.
The only time I really knackered mine was when I blew both diffs at the same time. I floored it at the base of a tree that was splayed out to see what would happen. It burned straight up the side of the tree to about 10 foot up before peeling off backwards, flipping over and landing on its wheels. It would have driven off apart from the fact I had the throttle nailed and the torque through the diffs of the truck hitting the ground from staionary with the wheels doing 40mph ripped every tooth off the front diff and utterly grenaded the back one.
Top trucks.

Not even that, take it out the box (it's 95% pre built), fill with batteries and fuel and then start the run-in procedure. About 3 hours later you're good to go.

Cool, so you can buy one of these, do a bit of build on it and then go and muck about in the park? I.e they come with all the bits and you don't need to worry about buying a widget for this or that?
Whats a good one to get - thats upgradeable (and fixable!)
Dave
There's aseveral different truck out there. I'd go for either an HPI Savage (they do one with a .46 in it now I believe) or a Traxxas Revo. There's all sorts of tat you can put on them. I know a guy who spent two grand on anodised alloy parts for his. Sold it 12 months later for £500.
One thing that you MUST buy is a failsafe. It cuts the throttle if there is a radio problem. Before I fitted mine I had the truck run out of control due to a failure in the radio receiver and it smashed ito a tree and conked out. I was very lucky as it was about to spear across a park full of kids. Bear in mind a Savage weight about 5kg, and when they say it does 35-40mph, they mean it. They are very fast and hit top speed in 4-5 seconds. A failsafe will cost £15-£20. You may never need it, but imagine people in a park lying in the sun. If your truck runs out of control and they get stotted in the head, they are a goner.

Sweeeeet, saw the savage .46 on that website looks lots of fun! Very good point about the failsafe - could see it dissapearing into a lake or over an embankment onto the motorway!!
Final question, if bought in USA is there gonna be any difference to the model in UK? Or are they global kits?
Thanks

David A said:The Traxxas E-Maxx and T-Maxx seem to be pretty popular for upgrading. Do a search on "hop ups", and you should find plenty of stuff. I've already "invested" in a titaniam roll cage and a set of rather tasty aliminium suspension parts, but you can get all sorts of stuff.
Are they all upgradeable or is there a particular brand to get so its easy to pimp up.
Cheers
One other thing to bear in mind is that the nitro trucks are noisier, and more hassle to run than the electric ones , plus you're limited where you can run it if you don't want to upset the neighbours. The E-Maxx is probably the best electric truck you can buy, especially if you upgrade the motors and fit bigger batteries
I bought mine from Tower Hobbies in the US - the kit itself seems to be universal, but you will need a UK compatible battery charger.
