Do sony dv handy cams use standard firewire/ilink/ieee-1394 leads or do they use a special sony only lead?

Model is DCR TRV16E by the way.

Thanks,

Mark

I've had two. Both use a standard Firewire lead.

I tried a standard firewire with no luck. Had to get the sony version and it worked. Can't remember the model # though, sorry.

I have the DC14 and that excepts a normal firewire cable.

Ok, confused now. A mate wants a lead to connect his cam to his pc and has taken the cam to a local shop who couldn't find a lead to fit it. Everything I've read seems to suggest that it's a standard firewire cable and yet he thinks he needs (and has ordered) a cable from amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005K4LG/qid%3D1130938832/202-9056914-0207844) costing nearly 40 quid!

To my mind this cable looks pretty much identical to a normal firewire lead and further googling...

www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_VMC_IL4635__5600010

...seems to support this.

The manual for the camcorder says nothing about special leads being required and seems to suggests it's a standard 4 pin ilink connector.
