More and more i'm at work thinking, i really feel like i need a drink when i get home. When i get home its nearly straight to the fridge for a glass of wine or a cold beer. So am i turning into a alcoholic ? Too stressed ? Or,is it just another sign of getting old ? Think ill have another glass and give it some thought. Anybody else sufferring like me ?

beer is good for you mate. anything that makes the world a better place is a good thing. you should start worrying when you fancy a drink when you get out of bed first thing in the morning...

Yep, identical.

If I feel I 'really' need a drink, I make a point of not having one and staying dry for a few days.

Damn that single malt, it actually calls me from the cupboard

Depends how many you have!

A large gin & tonic works wonders for me when I need a pep-up

Depends how much your total alcohol consumption is, i suppose.
if you have that one drink when you get home, but no more, you're probably 'just' stressed. if you keep drinking through the evening/night, it may be time to take stock.

Normally its just 1 can or a couple of glasses of wine.I feel no need to drink anymore. When i go out at the weekends i never drink more than say four pints. But during the week that thought of a cold guinness in the fridge is just heaven.

Exactly the same for me (it's to de-stress) and I ask myself the same question so I'm glad you posted this!

perfectly normal behaviour sire......

just keep an eye on the regularity and intake level......

it could soon turn into
'ooh i fancy a couple of beers when i walk in...'

and then onto

'i need to pick a four-pack up on the way home'

then you turn into someone who is agitated when there's no beer around

i have a beer in the morning when i finish a nightshift - it helps me sleep....no more than one beer tho'

I only experienced that problem once, when I was lecturing on about ten different courses and in the process of completing my MA. It was entirely down to stress and feeling the need to wind down and relax. Once I finished my course, things got back to normal - I waited half an hour after getting in before I had a drink

I found myself thinking that I fancied a pint whilst on my way to work a few months ago.

It was 8.30am.

So I hung up my goblet for a couple of weeks.

Now I am safely back on the Shiraz.

Did you know that a couple of glasses of red wine a day are good for you?

The second couple of glasses cancel out the first two and it is rude to leave the rest of the bottle.

Cheers

Pat

Doesnt mean you are an alcoholic if you fancy a beer when you get home, now when you wake up and you fancy a beer, then I'd worry

We all go through stages of drinking, some weeks I will be up to my 14 units but then go 3 or 4 weeks with only 1 unit a week, cant be any worse that eating a plate of chips- as long as you dont drive

When I was in my last job, I would open a bottle of red in the evening and invariably finish it. Couldn't wait to get home to it.

I still love my red wine, and to me it is just a perfect accompaniment to the early part of the evening when you've got the whole night ahead of you and can choose what to do.

Difference is that now, I stick the cork back in the bottle after one or two glasses.

I get a can of stella in the fridge ready for when i get home AM time,i find its great to wind down with a can, surf the net or stare at the TV before hitting the sack,i dont drink much so i can get a buzz of one can
Like has been said its when you get out of bed and fancy a drink i would worry, and the mere fact you are questioning it suggests you are in control.

It's probably in part due to the fact that you subconsciously associate alcohol with relaxing aswell so when you're thinking of going home to relax you think of alcohol automatically.

Doesn't sound like you've got a drinking problem to me at all (says me, who had about 8 pints last night..)

Cheers,
Rob.

Nein Liebchen! Ganz normal!

Mad Doc like Vodka Martini when he get home before meal und I have small dry sherry before we eat together as family. Und we have mineral water with the meal in week und either red or white wine at weekend...with our meal. So long as you are not polishing off several bottles und you have with food - you are perfectly OK und very, very normal

Sounds perfectly normal to me. What better way to de-stress after a hard day at work reading PistonHeads but to kick back with a beer?
