I have a 1982 South African built Mini 1275E.

It is essentially a 1275GT, but was originally fitted with drum brakes and a two clock dash as per the domestic Mini 1000.

Mine now has S discs and I have just fitted a three clock 1275GT dashboard.

I am having a bit of fun with the revcounter. Everything seems to work fine, except the revcounter seems to read about half what it ought to be doing....

Can any sparkies tell me what I have done wrong?

I've lost patience with a couple of these later mini tachos now.
In the end, I took out the Rover ones and fitted the Smiths 'Classin' soild state unit which, with a bit if fettling, will go into the same dash location. Then you just wire it as the instructions and don't use any of the existing wiring, so it works and is easier to read and more accurate.
But then, I'm not an expert with electrics, so I take the easy route.

Sorted.

After much wailing, cursing and gnashing of teeth I threw the Haynes Manual out of the window and went back to basics.

I had tried to splice the live feed into the spaghetti behind the binnacle, but my South African wiring loom bears little or no resemblance to any wiring diagram in the manual.

The live feed is now wired directly off the fuse box and the whole panel is now fully functional and the revcounter reads as accurately as BL's finest ever will.

I now have an MPH speedo instead of KMH, so I have at least some chance of avoiding a speeding ticket.
