Morning,

Long story but ended up with a Quicksilver rather than the Larini.

Having trouble fitting the exhaust - not a shock really!

So... removed the rear part of the undertray.

Stuck on the removing the refraisal - I cannot see how to remove it, does the entire rear end refraisal need removing?

Also, noticed the spot welding on the clamp - bit worried about removing this as I will be unable to spot weld the Quicksilver?

Any thoughts?

Rob.

I have fitted a new Larini not long ago and although it took longer than I first thought...I did do it in the end, but I'm sorry, what is a refraisal??

Regards,

Mac

When i fitted mine i cut the weld on the old exhast clamp with an hacksaw, the Quicksilver will not need the weld.
The Heat sheild stays on but you need to take the screws out of te offside quarter number plate suround so you can squeeez your hand in and get to the offside rubber clamp.

The A-Z off fitting an exhaust, I had the quicksilver..

1) remove the aluminium undertray using a 10mm sockets there are a row along the back and a row at the front. There are also two large allen key bolts about a third of the way back. The undertray will come clear away from the car.

2)Remove the V shaped peice of hest shield from the righthandside of the car. this enables you to drop the righthand exhaust hanger down.

3)Undo the clamp around the exhaust to catalytic manifold.

4)Remove the retaining bolts form the rubber exhaust clamp bushs, either side of the rear box. The exhasut will drop down you can then pull the box to the right using the previously removed bit of heat shield. The exhaust is now free.

5)Either purchase a new clamp or remove the old from the lotus exhaust using an angle grinder(Carefully).

6) Refit is the reverse of removal

First time round plan on 45mins ish.
Once you've done one assuming no snaggs about 20mins.

Hope that helps.

I assume by refraisal you mean the heat shield etc

There is a special V bit to remove held in place by 4 10mm bolts, on the right. The entire rear undertray all needs to come off as well.

The vast bulk of the heat sheild stuff stays in place.

Thanks for the response...

Booked in this PM to have it fitted at Strattons. No time to have another go myself...

Cheers, Rob.

PS - If anybody is interested in the sound, let me know and I'll post some video.

Yeah, all fitted by the dealer.

Couldn't really test it out on the way back from Strattons because of rain / heavy traffic all the way home. Went for a blast yesterday and I have to say that the exhaust had added another dimension to the car - sounds like a real sports car now which is great. It's not incredibly loud but still loud enough that people turn to see what the heck is heading towards them!

I've taken some video - will host on here if anybody is interested?

Also, the exhaust cost £120 from a guy on ebay - it had covered 6K on his S2 Exige.

Original owner just said he gets bored quickly and wanted to try something else so has ordered a Larini! Probably as part of the group buy which I kind of kicked off!

My other choice was the Quicksilver because of the positive comments I'd read - also at £120, it was a chance to save some bucks for a change.

OK, here's some pretty crap video - Qucksilver from cold start. Not sure if it'll work that well, you may need to wait until the entire file is loaded into whatever media player you have - also turn the volume up high to get a good idea of the noise.

... or try right click, save as to your PC...

I'll try and sort some better video out at some point.

Having tried different zorsts on my 111r, and having been driven in other 111R's with other alternatives, I've found them all to be either too quiet, or way to noisy to be viable on either a car that's in use every day, or for those who want to track. But I've recently had fitted a Larini Spots Exhaust, and all I can say is WOW.

Firstly it's beautifully made, and it's a real shame that it's hidden when fitted, but good to know however real quality is there. The sound however is something else, lovely deep growl on hard acceleration, with a bit of an infectious burble on downshifting. Cruising at 90+ gives a pleasantly subdued note, you know it's there but it's not an unpleasant drone like some systems give. Performance improvement, probably marginal; but knowing how Lotus insist that the their standard system is very efficient, and their own Stage 1 or 2 systems give very little performance benefit, the Larini one probably confirms this.

Weight of the system is easily 50% lighter than the original.

Can thoroughly recommend, and those that have invested a 111R system as part of the Larini group buy have a real treat in store. Anyone else who is hesitating, all I can say is don't!

But you can even improve on this and add a Sports cat as well, and the WOW comes then through a huge grin. Engine spins up much more freely, and mid range acceleration is certainly improved. Not done any definitive mpg tests, but the two tanks I've used so far appear to have improved the mileage, and I guess this may get better as the ECU adapts to the new set up.

No question, a big thumbs up to both bits of kit
