I'm considering to move to Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Does anyone know where I can have a look around for property prices? I'm looking to rent a large-ish studio flat or a small 2-bedroom (1 bedroom + office) flat.

Any hints or tips are appreciated!

Welwyn-Hatfield Times property section. My dad and sister live in Hatfield as does my best friend (born there myself). Email me through my profile and I can sort out some of the free papers for you (I still live in Hertfordshire).

Take Welwyn instead. Prices aren't significantly higher than a decent part of Hatfield (of which there are few) and you'll more than likely wake up to your car being outside still.

No, moving to Hatfield is never the right move.

Plenty of nice areas in Hatfield :P Anyway certain areas of Welwyn aren't exactly safe.

I resent that! We're not all Prada wearing, fake tanned socialites. That's what Harpenden is for.

It's also a lot better for emptying your wallet and increasing your mortgage . It is good beer territory though.

Try www.primelocation.co.uk

Might be useful. Usual disclaimers.

I just moved out of St Albans as I'm sick of the Thurs/Fri/Sat night scum that migrate to the place and puke and fight everywhere. It's ruined it.

Heh, london prices is exactly the reason why Hatfield seems to make sense. I need to be in reach of the uni, though, will be doing some contract work for them.

Hatfields claim to fame is the somewhat tawdry "Galleria" factory outlet shopping centre... not the most inspring place to live IMHO.

Have you considered some of the more countrified areas or villages in Herts / South Beds ? , where prices are not as outrageous as Harpenden or StAlbans (expensive because they are on the Thameslink into London )

Fair point. As long as you avoid The Vintry, The Cross Keys and London Road though, it's fine in my experience.

Also, some friends of mine who work at the uni' live in the outlying villages, Codicote, Kimpton etc.

As well as the Goat, I'm partial to the boozers down the bottom of Fishpool St. in St Michaels.

I'd forgotten about those pubs - very nice! Many a cold Sunday has been spent by the fire in the Six Bells (I think thats the one).
