any guidance for the uninitiated?

looking to buy!!!
38 years old and finaly pursuaded the wife that the garage can fit an 'old' car in; many years ago i had a spitfire and then an mg. to be honest that is what i was going to go for this time around...
but a friend of a friend (who lives on the other side of the country) is apparently selling a TVR s2
it is described as follows
"Unfortunately we do not have any pictures but it is in very good condition and he has spent a lot of money on it over the yesrs. It is no longer taxed for road use and is not insured:----
TVR-S,sports model,(convertible) 2792cc. petrol V6 engine. Colour gold. MOT cert.expires 22nd July 2006. recorded milage 72838..Date of manuf. 15 04 1988. Price indication £3000.
It can be seen at any mutually convenient time. Very throaty exhaust!!"
what should i look for? i have searched the piston heads classifieds and this price seems ok... but not if it needs loads doing
what about servicing; i have a friend with a small garage who services my V70. i guess he will be fine on the ford engine but are the other parts as servicable to a non specialist??
i look forward to any help you can give

Try posting this on the S Series, you may get a better response. Have a look on Colin (Pies) website it is a good site with plenty of top tips.
The S series are generally fairly bullet proof, most jobs can be done by a fairly competent person. Servicing and running cost are not too bad. I use mine every day and it is great fun.
ps. Once you hear it you'll want it. You have been warned.
