Many people may have seen news reports yesterday regarding a small organisation constantly searching for child porn and passing the IP addresses onto all UK isp to be blocked. There was a small clip of a woman scared that her small child may stumble accross such material (god knows how). Anyhow this is to be applauded and i dont think anybody would ever disagree with this action being taken by the government.

Things have gone a step further though and many UK ISP's are currently also blocking the IP addresses of alleged 'so called hate' websites held on us soil and protected by the 1st ammendment. One such website is called www.halturnershow.com and depending on your uk isp you may or may not be able to view this website. If you are with tiscali you are currently banned from viewing this sight but if you are with NTL you can still view the sight. It is not certain at present whether the orders come from big ears high command or it is the wishes of individual service providers.

The Hal Turner guy is getting to close to the bone for the us and uk governments to stand any longer. This is evident if you listen to his webcast radio show. I think we have just taken a big step on a slippery slope to a true police state whether you agree with the content or not. I never believed such a thing would ever happen but it has. There have been laws in this country for many years that stop uk citizens expressing complete freedom of speech but this is not even about free speech, they are now trying to stop you looking at such material in a similar way to the web is controlled in China. This may fly over many peoples heads on PH but this is an extremely concept for me to deal with.

What will they block next?

Who can view the website and what is your ISP?

Even if your isp blocks such websites they may be viewable now and again when the ip address changes after DOS attacks and the isp's play catch up.

I dont agree with all opinion on such sites but it is good to see all opinions in society and not just those that come out of the BBC.

Well, if your ISP blocks it, I recommend you complain - and if nothing comes of your complaint, try and join another ISP.

It's okay on Pipex at the moment.

However, there is a private memeber bill (or some such) on a ten minute slot that is trying to force all ISP's to say what they block. The MP is threatening to name and sahme those that don't publish.

Some ISP's already publish this information but do we really want to go this route? I agree some content is nasty and some illegal but...................

Thats what i have said to my dad, tiscali are tts and dont give MAC/PUC code thingy for a swift change over though. Could be offline for months unless you get another telephone line installed. Complaining would be pointless though, try explaining to an indian what they are doing and even if they understand what your saying they will have no answer for you. You cant even use a proxxy server, the only way around it is to dialup an offshore isp unless any techys more techy than me have any other ideas?

ten minute slot??? private member bill??

The only thing in the world worthy of banning is Child Porn. I think its the only thing that everybody would agree with. Better still just monitor those downloading / paying for it and arrest them.

For those of you who can not access the site here's a sample of the sort of claptrap it contains...

Apologies to the mods if this is unacceptable, but i think it's necessary given that not all of us can see it...

"ROSA PARKS DEAD AT 92
UPPITY NEGRESS REFUSED TO SIT IN BACK OF BUS

It was useful idiots like Rosa Parks who were so helpful the the newly-jew-created NAACP. Jews formed the NAACP and started telling blacks they were "equal" to whites and blacks actually started believing it. Then, some naive whites started believing it too.

OF course, these "equal" people needed over a trillion dollars of free Welfare, food stamps, medicaid, subsidized housing, affirmative action, race quotas, minority set-asides for forty or so years; and STILL TO THIS DAY, they complain they aren't treated fairly. STILL TO THIS DAY, they rape, rob, pillage, loot, burn and murder at the drop of a hat. (New Orleans. Toledo, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Detroit)

No, my friends, blacks are NOT equal to whites. Never have been. Never will be. And uppity negresses like Rosa Parks are to blame for setting up a scenario which has cost whites a ton of money, and given blacks the illusion they are equal. Good Riddance Rosa Parks."

Would that be missed if it were blocked?

Not by me.

You can form your own opinions.

Just checked my facts and it was aimed at child porn. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4377348 for details so maybe I was a little harsh on this particular MP. It is being proposed under the "ten minute rule" for privat emembers bills - which means it's extremely unlikely to become law

That is dodgey stuff they are saying on there. But that is not the point. It's the principle. Free Speech etc.

If my ISP (Pipex) blocks anything, short of child porn, I will complain. I'm not sure how I would find out if they're blocking anything unless they publish it though. Does anyone know where one would find out?

this has nothing to do with its content, the website has a section where you can say anything you want to say and what you posted is obviously just some dick ranting.

well you dont really have free speech anyway in the UK, if you decided to follow the idiot who posted the pointless stuff above from the UK you would get a knock at the door. A woman was sent to prison for 9 months or a year (i forget) for making an off the cuff remark from the UK on a right wing guestbook a few months back.

The judge summed up by saying that in this day an age you should keep such opinions to yourself in future.

Dude, you're kind of missing the point. If someone decides that you're not allowed to view this, where do they draw the line? Someone might decide that looking at car websites is bad so whoomp, we'll stop you looking at those too.

Whether you agree or not, & personally I think he's going a wee bit far(!), the fact remains that its purely this guy's opinion & he's entitled to share it with people who want to hear/read it.

I'm sure someone can tidy up the following, which is a rather famous quote: "I could not disagree more with your opinion, & you are an idiot for holding such a view, but I'll defend to the death your right to express it."

Kind of sums it up for me really.

Quite, i think the government has made a monumental up on this one. Its almost beyond belief. What are they going to decide we are not worthy of seeing next week. I wonder if the extreme left will have their websites blocked?
