125k on an 'm' reg 520
Discussion
Nope 120k and more is fine, my dad just sold exactly the same vehicle, same age and model with almost that mileage and it was fine.
If it has been well cared for, regular oil changes, regularly serviced and no-one has attempted to murder the engine it will do plenty more than that!
Our previous car was the same generation (E34) but a 518i. It had IIRC almost 150k when we sold it and that was after the previous owner had driven 200 miles with a caravan and no water whatsoever in the engine!

Yep, I have a 518 (M40 engine) not quite the same but has done 166K and sounds fine, pulls well and after a new lambda sensor sailed through it's emission test yesterday.
Fanatastic machine for the miles. Slight bit of wear on the drivers seat but a lot better nick than you'd ever find on a Vauxhall with the same mileage.

My brother is looking at an 'm' reg BMW 520 with 125k on the clock. What are these engines good for? Is 125k a bit high?
125k is nothing. 200K no problems.
I'd be more worried about the state of the bodywork.
Has it got FBMWSH ?
It has got FBMW service history, 2 owners, and is apparently in excellent condition inside and out. Thanks for your replies chaps - i think my Brother is going to buy it - the first in the family to own a BMW!
