My computer is 2 months short of 3 years old and it was acting up, good job i took out the extra cover ( 3 years) when i bought it because i have just recieved delivery of a brand new 17" LCD screen to replace the 15" old one that was faulty.
One phone call not to an Indian call centre and it arrived 48 hours later.

Money well spent,Thank you PC World.

A little bit more than a 17" TFT would be my guess.

Hence my question.

I always end up arguing with the numbnutz in PC World who try to sell me this crap. My argument...

"If it breaks within 1 year you will fix it. If it lasts that long then it will probably last a good while longer, if it fails later and is BER, I'll break it for parts, by which time it will be so obsolete that I will be looking at getting a new one anyway"

I usually ask 'em if they think it will break. If they say "yes" then I politely say that I don't want to buy it,if they say "no" then I tell them I don't need the extended warranty thank you very much!

A good 17" TFT should set you back no more than £150.

I don't buy anything major from DSG. Therefore i don't have to put up with spotty oiks on commission.

I bet you don't regret posting this at all! As long as you are chuffed, but really, those 'care plans' and 'warranties are really worth feck all'.

So, something broke whilst it was under warranty and they replaced it for you.

Sorry, what was the big deal again?

Fair point so i`ve just checked and i was wrong, its a 4 years extra, 5 years in total cover plan and it was £265 on a £899 computer.
Piece of mind.

It does what it says on the tin.

If i had`nt had it i would shelling out for something this weekend.

but you shelled out for it back then... So no different really... They are a waste of money. In 5 years, how much would your 899 pound computer be worth?

PC World make me

As a result of their inability to accept "no" as an answer to the question "of course you'll be wanting extended warranty, sir?" without (allegedly) deliberately supplying me with a product that was already broken, they now no longer get my custom, or anyone else I have the opportunity to warn.

Particularly the Colchester branch at Tollgate. Bunch of who ought to be receiving a turd on the head, not a pat on the back.
