Any gym nutters/bodybuilders out there?
Discussion
I have got to be a rather serious gym go'er (not that you would notice) but want to "progress" without a) breaking any laws, or b) growing hairs everywhere! I've tried creatine (gave me a gut/headache) and some tablets from LA Muscle (paid £50 for a month's supply) and they had no effect whatsoever.
Does anyone know of some kind of supplement that would maximise my efforts they could recommend
Cheers,
Chilli.

Just keep training, one thing youve got to remember is to SHOCK the body so rest certain parts then hit them big time and use simple things like bars to push and pull your own body weight, ime going back into the gym on monday as i have weights at home in the garden i use but am restricted,if you train hard enough and focus you wont need any additives.
It takes time and patience.
Sorry i meant shock the intended muscle.

Ask nerv - he's a big lad. Something to do with regular protein injections I believe.

Am I the only one who got this?
no, i got it too. off both of you. quite the night that was too. until that Jaques bitch ruined it.
Stop it. You'll get this thread locked and the moderators will turn up at your house and kick your puppies and stuff

Without injecting or taking dodgy 'supplements'
there is no substitute for bloody hard work and a high protein diet.
The best thing you can spend your money on is a good protein powder and make sure you take it with breakfast and in between meals. Anything else short of steroids is a waste of time and money.
(been training myself for nearly 20 years & know a few serious/competitive bodybuilders so picked up a few things along the way
... hope that helps)

When I was going for it I was on Protein shakes and creatine. Put on loads of weight, but not what I was wanting, there wasn't much definition just water retention. Tried glutamine but wasn't impressed.
Now I am more sensible and stick to Protein shakes from Maximuscle and eating loads of protein. Have a tin of tuna a day and eat chicken and fish for your evening meal. I try to eat before and after each work out to stop the breakdown of muscle.

Well, I'm in pretty good shape (athankayew - ladies, get it here etc etc.) and this is by 16 miles bike commute to work and 3 45 minute heavy weight sessions a week. No supplements, plenty of pie and a lot of beer at the weekends.
I have been told that my pie munching will no longer be possible if I wish to stay in decent shape when I hit my 30s though
From talking to others - I would imagine just lean protein diet and heavy weights sessions to bulk up; supplements are for people who are properly serious, and actually like looking ridiculously overmuscled.

I have been going to the gym seriously for just over a year now, and only now can I actually start to see the results, its time and patience and effort.
You are so right, those that persevere see results.
Another thing i do to channel more power is i think of something that makes me really angry and use all that force to effing kill that last rep or two
,most of the time it works.nervous said:

Sorry - you turned me, but then she turned me back.
The thing that really amazes me in gym's is young-ish girls (Careful boys, let me finish
) Anyways, they go as a group and put the barest minimum on the machines and you can hear them talking to each other
'Oh, well I just want to be slim, I don't want big muscles'
There I am, struggling, lifting as much weight as I am able and slowly building muscle in 16 odd months now and there they are lifting the barest minimum and being worried about building muscle.

Have you tried whey protein?
I've been using that with creatine and noticed a difference. It's a shame you had an adverse reaction to the creatine. I assume you were taking it as directed rather than overloading, which I know some do. Do you drink a lot of water? I've read a few reports that suggest the headaches are often down to the onset of dehydration. If you don't drink a couple of litres of water a day it might be worth doing so and having another crack at it.
I was wary of using it because of the common side-effects, i.e. headaches/stomach cramp, but have had no problems so far. I've also noticed a definite improvement in my abilities since taking it.
If you've not given whey protein a go, you might want to try it. It's promoted to assist recovery and also, you're more or less expected to significantly increase protein intake if you're to make sufficient gains in body size in any event.
I understand that you could probably get all the protein your body needs just by diet alone, but it's a big commitment and I find it difficult to be constantly eating, even though I know I probably should.
I buy my supplements from www.affordablesupplements.co.uk and have been really impressed with their service.
You might also want to check out www.muscletalk.co.uk - they have forums filled to the brim with diet/training tips etc that I've found really useful.
I hope this helps, apologies if you knew it all anyway.
