I have just spent the last hour and a half and a 20 mile round trip for absolutley nothing.

Went to take The Boy Fish swimming this morning, the same as we did last week at the mother and baby/toddler swimming session, only to be told when we got there they had changed the rules since last week and decided only 17 people in the pool at once.

Now last week when we went, there were double that and still there was plenty of room in the pool.
Then to top it off, a friend of ours was already in the pool waiting for us, so I took a couple of pictures of her and her little girl, for their album, only to be told that I wasn't allowed to do that either because of child safety, even though they had cossies on, were in the water and I know them well

It may seem a little thing but I am so mad right now, think I'll go and burn off some frustration by doing the hoovering :irked:

I was looking forward to a nice little swim with my boy too :(

Nope, no pre-booking. I paid for a 12 week pass last week too

I think I can use it at another pool though, which I think they have a session on thursday, so will try that one instead.

It wouldnt be so bad if they exercised common sense in other areas but they dont.

In Windsor the leisure centre is a relief point if the Thames bursts its banks. They have set it up as an emergency centre for flooding in other words.

Wheres the leisure centre?

About 10ft from the Thames

Great planning fellas.

Bugbear of mine. Cue massive queues up to 1/2 hour before baby sessions start...

The 1 adult per child thing is okay by me, up to a point - i.e. if you have 1 baby and 1 confident swimmer I can't see the problem with letting them both in at once.

Fortunately this health and safety rule has not hit our local pool yet.

However my wife did walk to mother and toddler the other week with our daughter in her push chair. On route daughter went to sleep, so my wife put her in the back room, put was told the push chair was a health and safety hazard and would have to go in the corridor, which is open to the outside with no locked doors etc.

My wife at that point walked out, and following a revolt by the other mothers that rule has been rescinded. Was the talk of all the mother and toddler groups as the childminder asked about it the following week!

Maybe eventually when the PH map is complete you will be able to organise a PHers with sprogs swimming session and just gang up on the administrivia specialists at the pool. Kind of "here are the rules" followed by a collective "yeah right splosh"

I did a similar thing for my nephew's football team. Took the camera and zoom lens over to get some pics only to be confronted by some ritchous bizzybody complaining I can't do that just incase I might be some sort of Gary Glitter
Half the parents on the touchline new me and we happy to have some nice pics of the team. You just can't seem to do anything with honerable with good intentions nowdays, without getting the rule book thrown at you. What kind of society are we living in now !!

I wasn't as if I was wearing a dodgy rain mack or anything

have a and breath easy Lisa. I sympathise

Luckily we have a nice private pool close that:
1) Charges only about the same as municipal pools
2) Actually heat the water up!
3) Has rules that appear to be over-ruled by common sense

Which means if we want to take our 18 month olds down the watershoot (technically for over-8's or something), or let them get in (literally) over their heads in the deep end, it's up to us, 'cos we as parents are there to look after them.

And the last council pool we went to I was cold after a few minutes, never mind our lads...

Sorry to hear of your disasterous morning Lisa. I'd have been tempted to just jump in, going "Woo hoo!" as I did so

The rules on photography are a bit stringent aren't they? I had a student once who was the bloody lifeguard at the pool and they still wouldn't let her take photographs for her photography project. It is a sad reflection on society I'm afraid.

There is a closer one, but the one I went to this morning is smaller and shallow and quite warm. The alternative is a full size one that has a section roped off. Seeing as I have only just introduced him to a body of water that is bigger than a bath, I thought it the more sensible option.

I'd write to the Chief Exec of your Council telling him exactly what you think, value for the Council Tax payers etc.

Agree with Emma - say 'too late buddy' and jump in anyway.

Photographing minors in a public place is an absolute minefield. (Been there, done that!)

Even though the pictures are for your own personal use, and you have a verbal agreement with the subject's parent or legal guardian, you are still supposed to get written permission from everyone else in the immediate public area *just in case* you happen to photograph somebody else in the background.

Whilst I appreciate that there are instances where photographs of minors (particularly in a swimming pool environment) find their way into the hands of people who view the photos in ways other than a "snap" of a friend's children (you know what I am talking about), some establishments can take the guidelines too literally, and don't apply common sense.

Are we talking about the teaching pool in Derby City Centre Mrs F? If so, you may be glad you didn't get in.... we took baby Meeja there on Sunday, and there were "issues with the environmental temperature control systems" (the bloody heating wasn't working properly!) and the pool was a bit on the nippy side!
