wooden kitchen worktops - who'd have 'em?! anyone got any tips, short of sanding it down and re-varnishing?

also, there is a bit where someone has been a bit over-zealous with a scourer, and has scratched the varnish/polish away - is there anything to use to bring the polish back up again in a localised area - I'm sure someone said you could use banana skins to rub over the area repeatedly and it gradually builds the shine back - can't imagine it lasting longer than the next proper clean though

Too late.

Just eat more curry in different locations on the work surface to blend in - no one will ever know.

what kind of oil do you use, or does it depend on the final colour you want?

are they oiled or varnished?

if its oiled it shouldnt be a problem, just a rub down with some very fine sandpaper or wire wool and re-oil.

if its varnished you need to get the whole thing back to bare wood and start again.

I think its Linseed oil the now worktopcame inpregnated in it and you need to re-apply it
every so offten .

I guess you could change the colour this way but with mine the oil was quite clear , just apply liberally and kind of scrub it in with a sort of soft brillo pad then wipe of the excess and leave it for 12 hours or so ,bit of a pain but gives a loverly finish

I use Danish Oil, put it on sparingly and build up the layers or it won't dry out evenly. Its redone every couple of months.

Danish oil?

Don't they complain when you put them in the press?

it was tasty, i think

2 types - one red and one yellow - turmeric and something else are the culprits

Akshully...

Joking aside, it might be the key to what you need to do! You know: some things will get the stain out, some will fix it in!
