I have a friend, no really it's not me...
Who is convinced he has some sort of skin parasite.
Without going into too much detail his circumstances arn't great at the moment and he's living in the back of a garage.
He's had a history of mental problems and so no-one will believe him about this (me included untill today).
He was here at lunchtime and I watch what looked like a half inch hair thin worm come out of his skin. It was sort of creamy white.
He has all sorts of samples of nasty things in bottles, one of which is a 1 inch long small sluglike thing. Except it has a pointed spike on its arse end and a single long spike coming out of what I would guess is its head. It's about quarter of an inch wide.
He reckons its the mama worm.

This all sounds really odd, and until I saw that worm today and some photo's I though it was all in his head.
Now the problem is that he can't make these things pop out on demand and his doctor is just up for sectioning him and won't examine him properly.

A) is there anyone who has any idea what the hell these things are and...
B) is there anywhere he could get the ones in bottles tested?

Number 1. This does indeed sound like the rantings of a madman or someone whose been watching too many horror movies.

Number 2. As he has a jar of these things, why can't he take them to the doctor accompanied by YOU, as you've seen these creatures crawling out of his flesh.

cazzer if his doc wants to section his just because of the worms and you have evidence. Then I suggest you help him and go to the quack and tell him what you saw.
far to many people are not always believed in our society.
if you have doubts about his sanity also you must tell gp this but still support your friend on this matter.
is your friend of african origin,or has he she been to a foriegn country. there all sorts of weird parasitic worms to be found especially in africa.

If you are sure you saw this worm thing you must help your friend sectioning someone is a very serious matter.
I knew someone once who was sectioned because she refused to have her baby induced. the hospital said she was way overdue. her dates made the baby prem.
they sectioned and induced the baby died it was prem.....
grhhhhhh...
sectioning is a useful tool for the mentally ill,but one has to be sure that person it ill .

You know...you ask a serious question....

I saw it. He's definately not nutty. Well actually he may be, but not over this particular thing he isnt.

Anyway, have just got back from the doctors with him, he's now making him an appointment to see some sort of microbiologist bloke.
And this is definately not "casualty" related as he's been going on about them for weeks. Just none of us believed him.

There are some weird worms you can pick up in odd areas of the world (Africa particularly, as mentioned). The Whoozette is a dermatologist and has plenty of books with icky pictures just like you've described. If he's in the habit of travelling it's more likely he would have something tropical. Off to the doc to check it out is best.

So if you have evidence that proves correct, I suggest the GP is reported to the GMC for negligence.

Not sure what (1) is - elephantiasis? but (2) if it's flat and white could be a tapeworm...

Take him to a (good) GP with the evidence.

a bloke at my old school had what shounds like a similar worm in him. he thought it was a spot on his leg so he "popped" it and this worm just kept coming out. he went to our sanitorium and it turns out he probbaly got this worm on a trip to south america.

as long as it can be diagnosed (which would seem to be pretty easy considering you have both seen it) then i think it is easy to treat.

I believe the boxer fly lays eggs which hatch into larvea which 'crawl' out of your skin as worms.....

not pleasant... get him checked incase he has caught them.. specially if he's been to africa/s.america recently (believe the boxer fly is africa..)

If he lives in the back of a garge it's unlikely he's been travelling the world, surely?
