..have headphone sockets like on airplanes. ie am fed up of spending £8 to listen to some peasant stuffing themselves full of pop corn next to me. if they had headphone sockets u could bring ure own or rent some thus ensuring excellent sound?

It would sort of negate the 6 figure sum they spend on the latest sound technologies...

Could you imagine..

Bloke in the middle of the row wants to go to the loo, queue 20 people getting up, taking headphones out of sockets, tripping over cos the accidentally wrapped it round their legs.

Genius other than that

am no sound expert but if u have decent headphones wouldnt that be better sound direct in ure ear than relying on it bouncing off all the walls? yes some super dooper new cinemas have outsatnding sound but to be honest most that i go in dont and this is more than negated by the russtling of sweet packets all around.

Difficult to get quality surround though from just the one driver.

There are headphones that claim it can be done but they arent ever going to be as good as lots of actual speakers (not withstanding the correct setup as mentioned above)

A simpler solution would be to shoot any Chav who talks during the movie, problem solved.

Is that because they stopped showing porn movies in cinemas?

The rather loud 'bang' noise might be more off-putting than the rustle of sweet wrappers though.

"Also, I think knives are a good idea, you know, big f***-off shiny knives, the ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good because they don't make any noise, and the less noise the more we're likely to use them. That'll s*** 'em up and make us look like pros."

That would work!

Problem is that the staff in cinemas these days consists entirely of spotty teenagers who are about as intimidating as a wet fish. They need bouncers

actually on an unrelated point...

why do i have to travel to the other side of manchester to find a cinema where they turn the lights off during the film...

all cinemas in manchester (filmworks/odean et al) apart from the indpendant one off oxford road, which is that small the screen lights the room up more than the lights. same with warner bros/Vue in bury the Bolton on... all have lighting on perminantly so reducing the contrast on the screen - case in point, watching Fellowship of the Ring, during the Moaria section that was just a light grey washout rather seeing the subtle blacks and greys you can see in a properly dark cinema

Don't get me started on cinemas. I used to enjoy them but now I seem to spend 2 hours folded up into a small chair, constantly thinking "When is that fat cow going to finish that f ng vat of popcorn? Or at least eat it more quietly?"

I mean really: why can't people sit for 2 hours without stuffing their faces with sweets from crinkly packets or drinking 5 gallons of 7-Up? And why does the guy with bronchitis always sit behind me?

And as for aeroplanes...grumble grumble
