Keep your eyes open for the "video" for some awful boyband track (unidentified - I saw it at the gym) which is a crude pastiche of TopGun... which sounds utterly awful until I tell you that it has some great flying sequences... but instead of F14s and Skyhawks it's Hunters and Buccaneers!

will, young? not on my salary.
sorry, thats tortured even for me
to redeem myself ill note that jimmy stewart flew many bombing runs during the war, and actually came under fire many times, unlike all the other PR enlistments.
which, when you think about it, is a genius concept, that could only work on americans. "Elvis is a soldier? well, in that case ill sign up cos war cant be dangerous if hes doing it"

Stewart could have had a cushy ride but he volunteered for active service. He completed at least one full tour on B-24s. Clark Gable also flew some missions as a gunner.
It is noteable that neither John Wayne nor Ronald Reagan chose to serve on active duty, choosing instead to fulfill their military duties by taking part in propaganda and instructional films for the military.

Damn - it's just started and they are not showing it in widescreen. That's a real pity as it was shot in Vistavision, one of the big widescreen formats of the day - and in stereo too. Not bad for 1955.
According to the Radio Times, it was the top box office movie in the US that year.
