Mio 168 PDA Unit
Discussion
Last March I purchased a Mio 168 PDA unit running on Co-Pilot Live. This is a portable Sat Nav system which can be transferred between cars & runs on a 12 volt battery via the car´s cigar lighter. It was´nt cheap (circa 500 pounds) but offered seamless European maps. In fact the maps & intructions are brilliant but the Mio unit is rubbish. The socket on the unit is poorly made (important when recharging) & broke after only 3 weeks (took 5 weeks to replace "due to a shortage of spares"). Moreover with the top down on my Convertible (& the sun up) the screen becomes unreadable & the instructions impossible to hear. To me this appears a very fundamental design fault which should have been addressed prior to the system going on sale.
This is not a system I would recommend to any prospective purchaser!

I disagree, yes the screen is hard to see in sunlight, butr then any sat nav will be. The connector on mine has survied for over a year now. The volume is fine in all my cars. Ok I run tomtom which may be different but I have no issues at all, I just mount it in a way to minimise reflection from the sun.
I've got a 168 and TomTom too, no real complaints here either. I've managed to drain the battery completely a couple of times by accidentally turning it on, which can be annoying as you have to reinstall everything then.
Battery connector doesn't seem especially flimsy to me and I think the volume level is pretty good. Its got a headphone jack too, when my Striker is on the road I plan on making use of that and maybe plugging it into an intercom system or something to give me some chance of hearing it.
