What's the most expensive last minute holiday you've ever booked, and how much did you save? What are the best sites offering this stuff?

[small]Anyone mentioning www.lastminute.com will end up with bird flu[/small]

We're thinking of booking 2 weeks off in February 2006 and taking a lucky dip. For budget we're thinking of bottling out from this last minute stuff and booking 2 weeks in the Maldives...

A colleague of mine paid £1000 for flights and a decent hotel in Mexico - for a family of four!

I think he got it through Expedia.

We went in Thompsons, I think it was about 3 weeks before we wanted to go, not sure how much we saved, if anything but paid 300 each for 7 nights B&B in Rhodes, they had brochure so we could see where we were going before booking it.
Two chaps we met out there booked their holiday a day before they flew and got 14 nights HB at same place for same price as us, but that was allocation on arrival.

Did Teletxt Holidays & got a week inKos all inclusive for under £200 per person.

Not bad...

Thing is it is a bit random on the Hotels. To have a 4* rating a Greek Hotel just needs a pool.

Also accomodation was spolit 50:50 with Germans. But we had a good week and the Swedish barmaid was nice!

Mate of mine phoned up and asked a teletext operator the cheapest deal on her screen. She said if he could get to Heathrow in a couple of hours Florida for 2 weeks could be his for £65

He was there

My nan and granda packed went to the airport (had all jabs needed for everywhere already done) and booked 2 weeks in thailand at the royal meridian yacht club, full board for £250 quid each. Thats a bargain in anyones book.

I spent two weeks before I was trying to go on holiday looking for when / what to do, ended up getting a very good deal and service from expedia using the hotel / flight option, the holiday options for both expedia and lastminute.com are both useless unless you are very lucky when you call the number to actually book the holiday!
