Just been talking to my sister, she found out today that her boyfriend who she rents a house with has been secretly looking into getting a mortgage and buying a house - ON HIS OWN.

Before anyone makes any comments about women snooping on their men, she found an 0870 number on the phone bill which had a call duration of over an hour and didn't recognise it so she called it and it was Northern Rock's mortgage line. She then checked the computer and found some websites for estate agents in nearby towns.

I cannot believe this. It's not even the first time he's done something like this either. She confronted him and he apparently said he didn't know what he was going to do, but he's obviously put some thought into this so that line is clearly bollocks.

Unbelieveable.

perhaps he is looking into the finances before asking her whether she would like to buy a house with him?

No, definitely not. They've been together 5 years and they only moved in together a year ago. He has said before that he would like to live alone.

I just said, she didn't snoop. They've had problems before with being charged for phone calls they didn't make so she wanted to check the call was actually theirs.

Plus, remember, I know this guy. She's been with him for 5 years and he's a cock.

Furthermore, would you trust a man who gets phone numbers of girls when he's out drinking and then calls them to slag off his girlfriend (my sister) to them?

Yeah, my point exactly. Funny how the bloke does something bad and you lot all fly to his defence and accuse her of snooping when I clearly stated she wasn't snooping.

No, I am angry for her and sad that she stays with him because he's worn her confidence down so badly that she thinks no-one else will go out with her.

baffles me that you want to post your frustration with your sisters' boyfriend on here..

..it's not as if it a case of bogroll bird or something earth shattering

tell her to kick him out if he's such a cock, or perhaps get him alone in a room and threaten to knock his teeth so far down his throat he'll have to stick food up his arse if he wants to chew it

choices...

I think she should have asked him about it before checking up on him.
I know she's your sister but I wouldn't like it either. There doesn't seem to be too much trust in him! SORRY just read the bit about other calls.I take it back.

Get rid of him!

Maybe the idea of living with your sister doesn't appeal to him any more and he wants to buy a house and live on his own. Well that's life. He's entitled to take that decision. It's not like they're married and have kids!

Looks as if she have a decision to make. Your job is to be there for her whatever she decides to do about it.

I posted because I thought that given the moral support that many PHers get when they post personal problems that there might be some in this situation. Clearly that was wrong.

Sounds like he is stringing your sister along so he has somewhere to live while he looks for a place of his own. Possibly leaving your sister with all of the rent (assuming they split it) to find on here own.

Logical just not very nice

She's tried, but every time she tries to talk to him he clams up. It's fine if he wants to leave her, couples split up. What I do have a problem with is the underhandedness of it all.

My spidey-senses also tell me to make sure she keeps a REALLY close eye on all finances under which she may be liable.

If someone is prepared to use someone like he apparently is... I reckon they'd not be above a little shafting too.

He needs kicking out though... or their relationship at least needs "rationalising"!

I realise this is a sensitive issue as its your sister, but I am afraid that love is only worth it when both parties are happy and honest. If your sister is getting her confidence battered to such an extent that she believes no one else would want her, she needs time for herself to think about who she is and what she wants.

One sided relationships are vey painful, and often it is caused by exploitation from the 'other half'. The best advice I can give is to get this man the hell out of her life. If he wanted to be with her with his heart, he would not be doing anything behind her back and she would know exactly where his loyalties lie.

The fact that you have already stated that he is a 'dick' furthermore confirms my suspicions that he needs a word in his ear - and I am not talking about violence.

There is no point in spending time in a relationship that is not fulfilling and happy.

Life - this is not a dress rehearsal

I agree about this checking up buisness being sneaky.I had an ex who used to go through my stuff so I left fake notes from imaginary girls in my bag.

It was funny seeing her trying to bring it up without admitting what she'd been up to.

The relationship didn't last very long. . .

Obviously.

think you need more evidence then this Silversun before you can make any conclusions.

I go onto property & mortgage websites occasionally to see what is going on, doesn't mean I can afford to buy anywhere yet.

Maybe he is planning a year or so ahead.
