AJP V8 engine transplant.

It might be of interest to some of you. A friend of mine called Phil Reader has a Triumph Dolomite Sprint with a Triumph Stag engine in it. He has just purchased a second hand 4.2 AJP to replace the Stag engine. Here's a link to the car.

It will definitely be a handful. A dolly is about 100kilos lighter than a cerbera as well.
One of our members went down the Cosworth route and that car is about as wild as you would want. He drives it to events so its not like its a trailer queen.

why ? Dollies did great in the BTCC a few decades back .. you had much experience of one of the best balanced live axled cars ever built then?Morning to you all hope you dont mind Scott dropping the bomb shell about one of your Fine AJP engine's about to find it's way in a Dolomite Sprint.

That to me is the whole point of it.
Well the engine is being collected next week,
And I know there's one Cylinder Head,Clutch and the Fuel Rail are missing apart from that it's suposse to be complete,
So then I can start getting your brain's working then.
Any one know a good source for TVR part's.

I often* have a complete ajp8 engine in bits in my workshop if you want to come and have a look-see. I'm very triumph friendly too 
best wishes and good luck with teh project. I still maintain the sprint IS a proper driver's car though, they're real hoot. I never understood the rs2000 fascination when the sprint was so much better (except escorts are cheap and plentiful of course .. lol!)

* i say often because at the moment the block crank flywheel + bellhousing are all away being used for a project a friend of mine is doing, but they will be back in the near future.

I think there's only one part you've missed from your list - it's the rest you'll need for your obviously enormous cojones!!

erm can give you dimensions when the engine is all back in one piece in my workshop .. you might be able to find this out on google though, i know some tvr dealer websites had some ajp dimensions on when the cerbera first came out, an old page or a copy may be circulating around somewhere.
the engine mounts are large plates that fasten onto the front of the timing cover using about 5 bolts each side to spread the load. the engine was designed as a stressed member for racing so there's plenty of torsional strength in that front cover.

Just wanted to say your car looks lovely, I've always had a soft spot for Dolomite Sprints. Keep us up to date on how you get on.

Ps. I've got 4 (I think - well from memory it's 4!) dolomite sprint alloys if you know anyone that's interested. They've been sat in my fathers shed for the last 10 years or so. Will need new tyres and probably a wheel referb but if you know anyone that wants a set it'll make my dad very happy to have his shed space back!
Graham. That's very kind. If you have no objections I'll post a link to your profile and post it on the Dolly forum. I would imagine someone local would be interested in picking them up and will get in touch. Otherwise, you might get £40 for them on ebay if you can be bothered to list it!

No problem, not bothered about cash for them, as long as they can be of benefit to someone. I had a couple of sets and chose 4 of the best wheels to go on my Dolly I had at the time. These are the left overs so not in great condition but may be of use to someone. My parents live in Crowthorne, Berks.
