Tips for Chassis prep needed

Started prepping my chassis last night as I can see the deluge starting and Oh my god!! It has th be the dirtiest job on a car I have ever done. Cleaning the old Waxoyl off with a paint brush, rag and White spirit is horrible and it's taking ages as well. 4 hours a later and I have managed one side ish.

Anybody got any tips?

I plan to clean it off by hand best I can, then as long as it's vaguely dry this weekend, give the lot a blast with a parafin gun. Once this has dried off, wipe down with Thinners/panel wipe or somthing, then apply a 2 pack Epoxy from ACT, followed by Tectyl once the Epoxy has dried.

I have to say the Waxoyl round the front of the car is pants as I have done it a couple of times this year and when I had a look there was a tiny coating on the wishbones and tubes. I think this is to do with the heat from the engine melting it all off slowly.

You are doing it the right way - it's a long slow boring job but it will pay dividends in the end..

I used a pressure washer with angled extension first off. Shifts 99% of the dirt - just cover anything electrical and keep the jet away from brakes/seals/bearings. Then you've got the difficult bit, which is de-rusting by hand.

If I were doing it again (which I hope I never have to do) I'd get a rigid hose extension with a watering can style rose on the end (DIY centre sell these for watering hanging baskets) and connect it to the hot water tap in the garage. Then I'd give the chassis a good soaking with the boiler turned up to max. This should melt/shift a lot of the wax before another go with the pressure washer.

There's no substitute for elbow grease once you're down to de-rusting / de-crudding though. Just do such a good job you never have to do it again.
