Swampy-hunting
Discussion
...the huntsman is heard saying: "Ah, we meet again," before his horse starts to canter around and through the group.
Charlotte Eadie, prosecuting, said: "Mr Upton charged his horse into the members of the group in order to split them up and to separate them out.
..."After knocking Mr (Tim) Burn to the ground and bruising a second man, Upton struck out at Miss (Melissa) Marr."
Sounds like top entertainment to me, well worth £1500 quid of anyone's money :)

Thats the trouble with these dickheads. They demand the right not to get a smack when they want to interfere with someone elses personal liberty in the name of whatever stupid lentilist dogma they happen to be punching this week. The senior police officer should take the stance of "well what do you expect" The green media are the cause of this. Anyone for marching on the Guardian offices?

The problem with "peaceful protest" is that its nothing of the sort. Yes this bloke took his revenge a little too far (no bad thing you may say) but the problem with "peacful protestors" is that they are
* harassing people enjoying a legitimate pastime
* trespassing on private land
* acting in a threatening manner
etc etc
Not nice things to have to put with. Some of these idiots deliberately put themselves in harms way during shoots! Cripes! Finding out the deer you just took down was, in fact, Swampy, can't be pleasant...nutters.

that article said:
Mr Burn, a lighting designer from Islington, said he believed a community service order should have been imposed for the "very violent and unprovoked attack" on a peaceful protest.
People who live in towns should not (in my opinion) tell people who live in the countryside what is right or wrong for that environment.
If Mr Burn honestly feels that strongly about fox hunting, he should sell his place in Islington and move to the sticks where things work a hell of a lot differently than they do in towns and cities.

People who live in Islington are too lefty to do much at all.
The sabs get away with it because they have made an issue of points of law so many times that now courts just roll over for them.
The hunts need to make this cop out really awkward...
Did the sabs hurt the horse?
Did they offend the huntsman in any way?
Have the sabs caused any other damage?
What were the police doing?
The trick here is to pick up on any little thing and make it into an issue.
Did someone hear a racist remark? I'm sure they did! Did someone see a sab hit the horse, of course they did! Can the sabs or police be charged with assult of the huntsmen? Did the fields have anything growing in them? Did the sabs steal or damage any of it, there's obviously so much missing!

No, no, no! Whether you agree with fox hunting or not, it can't be right to charge a horse at a human being regardless of the circumstances.
Mounted police? I understand what you are saying. This rider overreacted (??? Maybe - we weren't there). There are things that people say and do that would enrage me to violence - did the "peaceful protestors" engage in any of these?

It could very easily have been much much worse. He's a very lucky man!
Agreed. Given the way our court systems now work.
There again. Lets say some "peaceful protestors" decide to go stand between a deer and a stalker. Its a bit dark and they're in camo and stand up suddenly and, genuinely unintentionally, the "peaceful protestor" cops a bullet. Whose fault was it? I'd say the "peaceful protestor". Bet it wouldn't pan out that way, though...

Charging horses into people isn't the done thing whether it's a huntsman/the Police (do the Police "charge" at protestors?). I'm a layman when it comes to horses, but I do know they're quite heavy and have quite a stamp and a kick. If on the receiving end of this and the horse catches you in the worst possible way I'd imagine it's quite feasible that deaths may be involved. It's pretty serious then isn't it?
As for your camouflaged friend, I'd say he's an idiot of the highest order and shouldn't be surprised to find that a surgeon is trying to extract a bullet from him/her if deciding to undertake such foolish pastimes.
I'm not going to condone/disagree with the protestors actions. I have little or no knowledge of the why's and wherefore's of fox hunting etc. so have no real opinion. I just don't think it's right to consciously decide to charge a horse at a human being.

Note the difference in wording, I personally was always under the impression that "charging" was done at a gallop? What say you?
Edited to say:
Anyway, if this is the case and to charge requires galloping which in this case the horse was not doing because it was "cantering" (which is different to "galloping"
then the gentleman in question cannot have charged the group of people. The prosecution is using emotive language to imply more than the facts. Case dismissed. >> Edited by TeamD on Wednesday 19th October 14:32

TeamD,
Agreed upon the word "charged" which I also read to be a horse put into a state of gallop. If he's had to brush past the protestors as it is his only passage through to his property or whatever his intended route then he's been unjustly convicted in my opinion.
Lucky then that the prosecution had some video evidence to submit then wasn’t it.
