Driving Skills?

One of the things that I have promised myself (and close family) is that when I get my TVR, I will take the time to have some expert tuition on how to handle the beast...
Anyone got any reccomendations ???
Ideally I would like to involve my other half... as she will drive it too...is there anywhere that ofers the use of a car (as opposed to 'bring your own) ???

I've heard Ride Drive is the dogs danglies. Planning to book one of their 2 days courses myself (when I finally get paid!). They cover everything and specialise in TVR's.

Their courses are 'bring your own' (apart from teh skid pan) which I would have thought is better as you get to know the limits and capabilities of your own car.

I've done the first day, and I'm about to do the second. It's in your own car and it's for safe, fast, road driving.

If you want to learn how to race around a track then Ride Drive is NOT for you, but if you want to learn how to safely & quickly from A to B (and have some fun in between!) then Ride Drive is the way forward.

Try (gulp,dare i say)Lotus driver training. Went on a course couple of years ago, they have diff levels to work thro but start level v good. We had a full day down at Lotus test track starting with breakfast and breifing. Elise & instructor / 4 students. Worked thro 4/5 different lessons, inc braking(no abs), under /oversteer , high speed cornering, track work and laps on full test track. All with instructor with intercomm helmets. Allways being pushed to go faster/brake later. After dinner(provided) cars returned sparkling clean again ready for afternoon punishment. Cost for day was around £300 but well worth it.AND i turned up in my TVR, AND they let me in!

When I bought my first Tuscan S I went on a Ride Drive Course. I can't praise it enough. I'm now on my second S (a mk2) and every time I get in my P & J I still here the instructor's words, well some of the time . After buying the car, best money I have ever spent.

Note I have no relationship with Ride Drive other than being a satisfied customer.

A cheaper option is to do an IAM or Rospa course. (LOTS cheaper - £85!).

Based on the same Roadcraft principles as Ride-Drive use. Bargain.

I will be doing a Ride Drive in the near future.
I had to cancel the first one I booked because the clutch went - I have to say they were very understanding and just cancelled it without any problem and they recently chased me to see if the car was OK again and if I wanted to rebook another day.
I'll give you a full review of it when I'm done.

Cadence Driving do track and road tuition. Car Limits do training at N. Weald airfield. They advertise here.

I have heard that you 'make progress' during a Ride Drive course. Has anyone ever been caught speeding on their course? I assume that being on the course is not deemed to be a reason for getting off a ticket.....

I got an NIP on the 2nd day of my 2 day Ride Drive course... and I had the Road Angel on - didn't see it coming or remember it etc & neither did the instructor (who happened to be a Police driver) So... watch out!!

I went on a 'Car Limits' airfield day yesterday, excellent value and you really get to know how your car handles on the limit (and beyond!). Highly recommended if you have no objections to giving your P&J a good thrashing.
