Corvette whips the Astons AGAIN
Discussion
Dave Richards is not a happy bunny after Aston Martin got their botty's smacked AGAIN by Corvette Racing.
Just read what the bad loser said:
After witnessing another Chevrolet whitewash in the final race of the American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca, Prodrive owner David Richards has hit out at the handicap that he claims is preventing his team from challenging for race honours.
Having seen the two Aston Martins Prodrive run in the ALMS finish third and fourth, Richards claimed that the Corvettes now have such a significant performance advantage that the rule books need to be readdressed. Indeed, he even hinted that unless the situation is clarified, Aston Martin may not return next year.
"We knew from the outset that the Corvette had a distinct advantage and it has had a pace advantage all year over us. The objective was to ensure both cars got to the finish reliably and they did in the best positions they could expect in the circumstances. It is very clear that the disparity in performance needs to be addressed now by the organisers before we can consider a season back here."
Richards view was mirrored by Aston Martin team principal George Howard-Chappell. "Clearly we are disappointed with our performance. The team did a great job once again, and third and fourth is a credible result but not what we came here for. The handicap and performance breaks given to teams need to be re-adjusted, this is clear and is acknowledged by everyone."

I don't know the ins and outs of the situation, but it seems to me like a lot of moanind. What do Aston want? A slower competitor so they can win?
Surely the 'vette and the Aston are in the same class, abiding by the same rules? Sounds alot like whinging to me.
Anybody posted this in the Aston forum ;-) ?

seems the yanks can't take any criticism about their perfe.....plastic "sports" car.
Constructive, well founded criticism is acceptable.
JC's style of sensationalist criticism is not.
Thank you for your comments ZeeTacoe, now please clear off.

Am I missing something? The last time I looked Aston were owned by Ford, making them American too....just lacking in the muscle department heheheehhe

c5ragtop, to me you appear to have proved his point, anyway to get back on topic:
Although both cars are in the same class is there any difference in restrictions, such as intake restrictors? If so, then maybe AM has a point, if not, then they do not. This is all IMHO...
Most of the comments on this forum are posted by British Vette owners, not the 'yanks' Case closed?
Do performance restrictions cause you to run out of petrol at the most prestigious endurance event of the year?
Aston Martin have been beaten all year long by class, professionalism and a better looking and sounding car!
They should get a grip. As always, don't talk about it, do it on the track!

ok serious question.
how long have Chevy been racing the 'vette in the ALMS or at le mans?
I don't know. Probably less than Aston Martin - but of course there's the typical Yank-bashing dilemma. If Corvette comes out, races and does well - it'll be because of (delete as appropriate) bottomless pits of GM money, not fair rules, etc.
Of course if Corvette didn't come out and win these things, everybody would say "howcome if the 'vette is supposed to be a serious car, don't you go out and race it in Le Mans."
Poor old Corvette. Never can win... there's always some "snag" as to why:
- the Corvette Z06 gets round the 'ring in 7:40 (snag: can't remember the waffler here, but I think cause Chevy used a pro-driver)
- the Corvette is modern technology (snag: it uses a extremely simple but effective rear spring, it doesn't use overhead cams... never mind it does so reliably and functionally)
- why the ZR1 holds and still holds for a factory produced car, 7 FIA world records for endurance (snag: it wasn't a European car, and anyway, reliability isn't sexy - you need a car to-a be-like-a woman, temporamental)
- why 90% of 'vettes ever built are still around (snag: it's fibre glass and loads of alloy are yukky material)
- why the Corvette is not a Supercar (snag: despite the Z06 being 0-60 in 3.6s, it's not a Supercar because?? actually I can't remember why not, but anyway...)
- why the Corvette has never - despite large displacement - incurred gas guzzler tax in the US (snag: really it should, as a proper sports car doesn't worry about MPG)
Oh the list goes on and on. So many things the Corvette just does well, but always some bemoaning about this or that.
Jealousy comes in many forms - no other car matches the Corvette for the *combination* of value for money, power, looks, longetivity and long-term reliability and ease of service.
Thank god though - if there was another car that came close the 'vette wouldn't be here.

Chevy started racing in the ALMS with the C5-R in 1999, going to le Mans in 2000 with the C5-R, they campaigned the C5-R in the ALMS & at Le Mans until the end of 2004 when the C6-R took over. Hope this answers you question.
