Just bought my first range rover 23 plate and this morning my passenger side step wont retract it goes half way in and then comes back out and on my info screen it says obstruction stopping step retracting ! Ive had a look underneath and certainly can't see and obstruction that would stop the step from closing fully, so if any landrover owners have experienced this fault I would glady listen to any advice from owners.
They are genuine landrover steps but not sure they where fitted from new so unsure if they would be covered under warranty or not but I will contact dealer to confirm but was hoping someone would have experienced this fault.

I have avoided the deployable steps on each RR I have had.

I prefer the look of fixed steps, and view the deployables as a problem waiting to happen.

The last demo we were given had the same issue you describe and that was 3mths old.

Mine get jammed frequently. You need to regularly soak each of the pivot points with penetrating oil and 3in1. Don’t use wd40 as it’s good for freeing off but not really long term lubrication.

I sometimes use a pry bar to “help” them out and then spray 3in 1 as they retract back.

I think there is a button to help them stay out on some models and there is a reset. Try to make them stay out and spray too.

Dad had issues with his deployable side steps over ten years ago. They would either not deploy, one would deploy, or the best one was when opened driver door, just the driver side deployed. When he shut the driver door the passenger side would deploy (passenger door closed).

They were never right and he has stayed away from them on all his other RR Sports.

Glad it worked. I tend to give mine a good pressure wash a few times a year then another good 3in1 soak.
