I'm looking at getting a MY long range dual motor, as I currently have a 2008 BMW E60 520d. My reasons for wanting to change are I need something more reliable hence wanting something newer, I'm keen to get into an EV as it will just be a daily as I have my E46 M3 for when I need something interesting to drive. The reason for the MY is I like the idea of the space, and the mrs wants something a bit higher up. While my E60 is still going strong on 150,000 miles it's getting to the age where something constantly needs replacing and as I say I just need something reliable.

There are a few options I have, so looking for any opinions or experiences if you've done the same.

- I have the salary sacrifice through work - everything covered at around £500 with a 16 week wait - likely longer as they get their cars direct from Tesla upon ordering.
- Tesla direct order - wait is looking like feb-march 27.
- Buy Tesla approved used - prices seem to be higher over other used but you do get the 1 year extra warranty.
- Octopus do a scheme where they sell off their previously leased cars, comes with insurance/ home charger etc.
- buying used - I'd be looking to spend around £25k and would like less than 40,000 miles. It's also very hard to know what's a good one as I'd want one in grey with black interior and there's plenty to choose from. Not really like a normal search for a car where options/ specs massively come into it lol. So is there anything I need to be looking for?

I've always purchased cars outright which is what makes be dubious about leasing as it just seems mad to spend that amount of money over 3 years and have nothing at the end of it. But I do get the hassle free driving and everything being included. Plus with salary sacrifice the tax benefits as I do currently pay 40% tax.

I'm not a fan of the wait times as personally I just hate waiting for things!!

But is buying a used MY sensible, due to potential depreciation and if anything goes wrong it's big money.

Any advice will be helpful as I'm torn. Realistically the only other EV I may be interested in is some form of BMW or a polestar - but they both seem more expensive - especially leasing than a Tesla. Haven't massively looked into buying private.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a Tesla approved used, but would lease from them if getting another one.

Tesla subsidises their leases, so the costs are less than private lease companies - with the current deals I could have leased a brand new car for the same as just the monthly depreciation on my 4 year old one.

I also wouldn't have one without a tesla warranty due to the potential large costs (excluding the motor and battery pack which have longer coverage)

My best advice would be to get a "Juniper" (refreshed) Model Y it it's at all in the budget.

Front view is the easiest way to tell them apart (Juniper on the right):

Same here. Bought a 2 year old Model Y and the depreciation has been fairly severe. I'm just going to rinse and repeat, have ordered a Juniper and will renew that when the PCH is up. For me, it's not worth running a used Model to save a few ££ a month

Yeah I am thinking of going down the pch route with Tesla. Currently £293 per month. 12 month deposit. 10,000 miles for 2 years with a December delivery. Seems it will be less hassle/ worry and see if it's for me.

Absolute no-brainer, especially if you email someone with a referral code for 650 free supercharger miles
