I'm after a car in a particular colour combo which, it turns out, is out of stock everywhere. Factory orders only, cars arrive Christmas or so. It's not German unobtanium.

In my search for the colour I've been ringing around dealers across the land to get a quick delivery. Through getting qualified and having productive chats with around half a dozen dealers before finding out they had no actual stock, I got to a good deal. There are deals amongst all but this one was a bit better.

So given it's a 3 month wait I thought I'll go with local dealer, and they gave me a price which is 1100 more than the best deal, albeit they offer 2 services included which has a monetary value of around 600.

The negotiated deal included oem mats (!)

So I asked the local dealer if they would do 500 off to get near the other dealer. To be fair they came back and said yes, but that the deal would not include manufacturer mats, it would be dealer mats. I responded saying I like original equipment, will sign if they go with original deal including manufacturer mats.

They replied no, the cost of the mats to them is 50, and it's only an extra quid a month on the PCP.

Now, a quid is neither here nor there, but it's the principal, I think it's a bit strange they could throw the deal for the sake of 50. I realise this cuts both ways!

What does the hive mind reckon 😂

I've sold cars for 37 years, on , and off.

When you've given someone the best price you can do, and they keep pushing, you have to draw the line and just sell it to someone else.

Surely it's better to buy local?

Even if it's a bit more expensive.

You are after a specific very hard to find car, you've located one with a good discount and you don't want to buy it because the mats they are throwing in aren't official manufacturer ones?

You'll spend more than fifty quid's worth of mental energy on this thread

hehe

I know, I know. I think if they came back and said ok we can go halfway I'd probably have said ok fair enough. It's the specificity of downgrading the mats to boggo ones that's triggered me rofl

What, get the mats for the left hand side only?

Youve cut your nose off to spite your face and now youve lost out on a car youve clearly spent a lot of time an energy on for the sake of a few quid.

I do however completely understand your lust for the OEM mats.

having the supplying dealer locally is worth what you are paying extra if you have any issues to resolve.

Yes they will deal with warranty issues if you buy elsewhere but NOT your consumer rights.

And when you buy elsewhere and local goes bust. Well who's to blame?

Sounds like you've pushed them as far as possible and are now starting to piss them off.

Why not just accept the decent deal and stop being such a nause smile

Why not just tell us what car it is? The rest was TLDR

What dealer has their own mats for every model?
It will be OEM mats. It might be standard mats rather than premium but it will still be OEM mats

It's not a matter of principle though is it?

They gave you a price which included OEM mats.

You then haggled them down £500 and they said that it wouldn't include OEM mats. It's not like they have pulled the wool over your eyes, they have been very up front about what you are getting. If you ordered the car and the mats were none OEM and they had promised OEM mats, it would be a different story.

In the end they are probably confident if you don't buy it another customer will come along who will.

If you are so keen on the spec you are mad to let it go over £50, just buy the car and enjoy it

I don't get this.

You've got the car you want in the exact spec you want at the time you want it locally to you and you're seriously asking if you should let it go over fifty quid?

Is this a practical joke?

I reckon it's a Victor Meldrew retired type, spreadsheets and too much time on his hands in between coordinating the neighbourhood watch and speed gun volunteers.

Been in the motortrade for over 30 years, yes they do and these are the ones that you actually end up not wanting to deal with, hoping they go away as they invariably end up being a nightmare going forward.

I don't think it's a pile on.

I think (so far) most people just think it's foolish to let the car you want go over fifty quid.
