Haven't done it myself, but Rick Stein's recent series looked good!

French Odyssey is a journey from Bordeaux to Marseille by a canal barge called The Anjodi finding all the glorious food and wine of the Midi from entrecôte bordelaise and shad grilled over vine trimmings, to sarladaise potatoes fried in duck fat with garlic and parsley and on to snails Languedoc style and La Bourride and an epic Bouillabaisse at L'Epuisette a restaurant on La Corniche in Marseille.

Thinking of hiring a boat for a week, for a family holiday.
Can anyone recommend which river/canal to cruise?
Looking for nice scenery and lovely small villages/towns en-route.
You might want to check out what licensing you need to operate a craft over there. From memory they make a right song and dance about some inland waterways qualification as against the coastal qualification. See www.rya.org.uk for info
