Small rant/moan - bought 5 litres of Shell Helix 5w30 (£66.80), a Mann filter and sump plug for my Scirocco TDI from local Euro Car Parts- £83 all in!

Same oil was £45 last year.

There was a notice on the door saying due to global issues/shortages that they are not offering any discounts on lubricants.

It's annoying. My RN17 Renault spec oil starts at £50 for brands you've only vaguely heard of.

A basic service now costs 50% of the fuel costs for my EV and given I service the ICE car every 5000 miles I spend as much on oil changes on one car as I do driving 11000 miles in the other car.

It really isn't worth it bar a couple of weeks in the summer.

Well, console yourselves with the fact you don't 'need' Mobil 1 C40 GT fully synthetic oil. hehe

I'm sure there's plenty of 'science' in there, for road car engines revving to 9,000rpm. It's mad looking stuff too. Did a full engine oil change last winter and is was only as I was glugging the first bottle into the engine I saw it was green. I honestly had a brief panic that I'd mistakenly bought coolant or something.

If you've got a costco card they are still a good price there. 5L of castrol gtx was ~35 quid about a month ago.

The branded big boys as I call them are all expensive, Euro has never been cheap for oil.
I use Arnold Clark as above for shell.
Fuchs still is very reasonable, I just wonder is it the quality of old as it was seen as one of the best along with silkolene.

But feel free to buy expensive branded stuff if you want to believe the advertising.

Bloody good prices there!! I need 10w 60 for the S54 in my Z4M. I d probably get all out of shape with the brand snobbery and end up with the allegedly specific Castrol branded stuff. Can’t explain it!!

Carparts4less used to be cheap for oil but it's not cheap anymore. Last time I looked at GSF they were pretty cheap if they got a special offer on.
