S2 v F1 winter programmes - tyres first

Well the F1 season has finished and the teams will now be starting their programme of winter developments. Given the weather this w/end the TVR season is certainly NOT over!!

Unlike some of the F1 teams I'm happy with my driver line up and I will not be spending time in a wind tunnel, only the Hatfield tunnel on the A1.

Like several of the F1 teams I have just changed tyre supplier though. Bridgestone RE720's fitted all round yesterday at National Tyre in Northampton for £250. Well pleased with the result - and spotted by Mycroft on the way home too!!

Does anyone have an opinion on the optimum pressure to run these at? There seems to be several different views.....

Luckily with my sponsorship situation (i.e a new wife and new kitchen!) my chassis development will be minimal - seen the pic's Dale, nice job mate. Had a look while on the ramp yesterday and only a small amount needs painting so I'll do it myself and save the money for the new dampers & springs. But which ones.....?

How many posts are there on suspension? Answer - Loads!! Gaz, Avo's, Nitron's, plus springs to choose.....? aghhh!!

Finally, unlike Jenson Button, I'd love a Cosworth engine in my car......mmmmm

Just thought I'd point out some subtle differences between F1 and S2/3.

1). Driver compartment of F1 develops an enormous heat during race. (no heat in S footwell, mine anyhow)

2). Tyre change F1 ~8 secs, S ~ 30 minutes, after 20 minutes of waiting and faffing.

3). Petrol gauge F1 digital - telemetry sends precise fuel loading to central computer. S general idea of full, half full and empty, variable with incline, acelleraton, breaking and cornering. Fill up when nerves get the better of driver.

And similarities...

1). Windscreen clearing mechanism
2). Open top motoring
3). Turning circle of a nuclear submarine
4). fun

but the formula 1 sounds like a scalded wasp, while the tvr...........................sexy.

plus if a mr schummacher had to buy his own tyres he probably wouldn`t get a valve for £250, let alone a full set of tyres

Yes the choices on dampers are bewildering but thankfully you can get opinions from experts like Guglielmi down the road from you.
