I'd not realised he'd been so ill... I hope his recovery continues and what a wonderful and positive thing to donate:

Never met the man but he always comes across as a complete gent, this story just reinforces that.

Credit where credit is due. Many people have very good things to say about GM before he did this. A true gentleman by all accounts.

"Initially I thought I'd leave a donation in my will and then I thought 'it can start saving people now'."

Heartwarming tbh.

Nice touch. It's generous in a way bequests in wills aren't. I did not realise he'd been seriously ill.

But 'sports car designer'? Words fail me, BBC, so I'll just say MP4/4.

That's circa $2m for the initial cost, good on Gordon.

Always admired him.

Nice touch naming the machine after George Harrison . Not forgetting that another of George’s mates - Barry Sheene - was also diagnosed with carcinoma of the oesophagus but declined all conventional treatment and went down the herbal/alternative route. Hopefully GM’s treatment will allow for a more favourable prognosis..

MP4/4 ? Don’t mention the war. Steve Nichols would probably not put Gordon in the “gentleman” category - but that’s a (relatively) private argument that still bubbles over. Bubbling enough that it was the subject of the lead letter in Motor Sport magazine this month …

Gosh. Bravo, sir.
Apparently he’s a fine fella to work for/with, too.

What a man. No vast charity and its staffing costs to absorb any donation before some gets to where its needed.

A wonderful thing to donate. I hope he has many healthy years ahead of him.
