Hi all,I am looking for an answer to a question that I can't seem to find a satisfactory answer to. Does the current models have Adaptive cruise control i.e slows with the flow of traffic and maintaining distance.I get the feeling it might be behind the £99 a month subscription but I am sure someone here will know.

ACC comes as standard.

I have a 21 plate and it is a very user friendly system with the stalk to engage/ disengage when needed and there is a good level of variety in the following distances.

It will likely try and throw you through the windscreen at some point, usually when a car is waiting on a central reservation, but you get to know its quirks and simply enable / disable occasionally when you see something that might throw it off course.

£99 subscription?

As above, the adaptive cruise is free and (also as above) there are issues with phantom braking. I rarely use it, only in radar controlled speed zones where speed can creep up easily.

Phantom braking has happened to me a few times - full on anchors emergency stop from 70mph for no reason. Use with caution!

Is there an option to chose where it is just "dumb" and holds a fixed speed? I like the idea of cruise control but the cars I have had it in they have just been speed hold, I don't like the idea of random emergency stops for no reason!

On the website when building a new car it has this:

Tesla Assisted Driving Basic includes a number of driver assistance features:
Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Lane Change, Navigate on Autosteer, Dumb Summon, Actually Smart Summon, Autopark, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control.

I took Traffic-Aware Cruise Control to mean distance keeping and speed management.

No, it’s ACC only

It’s also crap compared to other brands, its camera based and throws a hissy fit if you’re on something like a dual carriageway and there’s a car waiting to cross it will slam on

It also gets confused with low sun light and does the same thing

It’s very slow to speed up when you pull out so you end up over riding it

You can’t use lane assist and acc at the same time, if you’ve got lane assist on and you indicate is disengages cruise and then you have to turn it back on (this is on a highland model)

It’s no where as good as VAG radar based systems

I barely use it now unless the motorway is clear

Thank you all for your replies. Maybe I will stay away from Tesla for now then.

I have managed to find a page that shows traffic aware cruise is standard but from your experiences it sounds like it could use some work.

I’ve had very few issues with our 3 Teslas’ adaptive cruise control. Like most aspects on Teslas, its function has improved substantially via OTA updates as time has passed.

Thanks.

I can see that Tesla is trying to make driving more and more automated but in this instance a simple speed hold would be so much better when the alternative actaully has you on tenterhooks as you try and second guess an incoming random fk up. That would make driving more stressful than relaxing.

Im' a big fan. It helps to know it's limits and never run into a situatoin where a disengagement is lkely. But i havn't had an abort in years.

The things that disadvantage it vs more stable moterway cruisers, make it very useful in other situatoins for example, stop start traffic in towns. I don't think you can turn on other systems from a start in a busy town and have it work (relatively) well around bikes and cars .

Could be wrong about that.

On the plus side you do get regular updates that enable you to change the colour of your graphics, a Halloween themed set of graphics to go with the Xmas ones, occasional new games to play, clearly things like poor Adaptive Cruise are not as important as stuff like that.

The ACC on the Tesla is actually quite good, it's the randomness of the curvature assist that is a genuine worry for me

Maybe the ACC has got a bit better? I haven't used it for a long while.

Yes, the curvature assist - I'm not sure of the purpose of that.

It's fine in traffic, it's more when you're cruising in L1 and there's a joining lane with a car on it where it might freak out if you don't move lanes.

Have they fixed the ACC tuning for the UK?

Historically, it has had issues as, in the US, the system is calibrated for their roads which are super wide compared to the UK.

So if you're passing a truck it panics.

Being on the road for a living I wish all Tesla owners would read this, and the other numpties that can't drive without it sitting at 55 in the third lane .

fking menace on the road.
