Anyone used one of these ? My ice car is too low for me to get to the sump so i was thinking of a pump to empty the sump from above .

No ideas for a name

Yes, I use one all the time now (servicing my own car, not commercially).
Initially I hated the idea, but my engine is designed to be serviced like that... it has a built in suction tube just inside the oil filler cap.
Connect up the flexi tube and pump away.
Mine is a manual pump - 7l I think. I got mine from eBay, but it seems there are many vendors selling exactly the same pump as the one branded Sealey.
Makes an oil change a quick, clean and easy job.

I use one. Much easier and if the oil filter is at the top of the engine then no jacks or scrabbling around under the car required.

Get the oil hot though before using it’ll make the job a lot quicker.

I've used one on various cars and boats.
Sometimes it makes an oil change superbly clean and easy.

Other times you faff about with it and never get more than 2/3 of the oil out.

It's a great thing to have for other purposes, I have Pela which has been very useful over the years.

I've got one but don't use it anymore. Slow to extract even when the oil is hot and the filter is underneath anyway.

No more than 5 mins slower for me to drive it onto the ramps and do it properly so the vacuum pump sits in the corner.

Some cars are designed to use one (Smart ForTwo so I've heard?) but I still prefer the old fashioned method.

Seems to me you won't get the iron filings off the magnetic sump plug if you use a sucker. wink

Yup:

This is what I use for our F31 and my E63 635d - just need to ensure the engine has a dipstick wink

It’s this one I have: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BPS5LRWD

Works really well; plenty of pipe widths to fit different dipstick tubes etc - a few good pumps and away it goes (oil needs to be up to temp for it to work properly otherwise it’s like trying to draw molasses)

Turns out my lad has one so I’ll borrow it ! The car is a toyota gt86 with the oil filter on top of the engine so should work out perfectly. 😃

Once you've used one you wouldn't go back to anything else. Much faster and cleaner than dropping the sump plug, and if you have reasonable access to the sump via the dipstick hole or wherever then there isn't much oil left by the end. Certainly not enough to worry about. Don't think I've been under a car to change the oil since getting a Pela about 10 years ago.

I also have this. Absolute game changer.

Use it for changing the oil on my F10 530d inbetween “big” services.

No mess, and an oil change takes about 15 mins, including the filter.

I have one (Pela) and used for my own between service oil changes. First time I used it I checked how much oil it actually removed. Used it then took out the sump plug to see how much it missed. Just a dribble came out.
A year later I dropped the sump to fit a new gasket. Inside was pretty clean of any undrained material. Also double checked where the tube went to when inserted, confirming the dribble check.
Current car has a BMW engine with no dipstick so not used the pump on it.

Yup; wouldn’t be without it now. Just a sod BMW don’t fit dipsticks to their petrol engines; goodness knows why seeing as they fit them to the diesels

When I did the oil changes on my 130i LE; it was a jack up, on stands job by and then crawl under to get to the sump plug

Thankfully all my E39s (x3 M54s and x2 M62s) all had dipsticks, so oil changes were a breeze

I bought one last week for £12 from lidl, only used it once on my starlet and it seemed to do a decent job.
