Not before time either. Speeding everywhere including pavements.
Each bike to have a unique visible number would be a good addition.

"Deliveroo will track riders’ speeds to halt illegal e-bikes
Conversion kits can turn ordinary cycles into high-powered machines, prompting concerns over dangerous riding, fires and road safety"

Kind of assumed they could and already were doing this sort of thing given every single thing goes through a phone app AFAIK.

It was apparently already a thing that riders would register as a cyclist but use a moped, to work around the need to submit insurance details on the app (which wasn't even a legal requirement of the companies). They would never question why an order was picked up and delivered 2 miles uphill at an average speed of 30mph by bicycle.

Yeah now you say that and I think of my general view of how these companies stretch rules and minimise liabilities and I'm not actually surprised.

Priority is all wrong here.

How many of us have been run over by a speeding ebike?

Now, how many of us have received a cold pizza?

Get these lads in Yamaha R1s and let's concentrate on the important things in life.

Where we live is a nice enough place

We are now in the uber eats catchment

Grown men driving mopeds down alleyways - at least you can hear them

I don’t think they learnt to drive in the UK so it’s probably the norm for them

Not acceptable

I can honestly say I have never used any of the uber/just/etc eats services

I could order from my local indian via their services but I go direct and collect it myself because it's a 5 min walk or a 2 min drive - I'd still collect myself if it was 15 min drive.

If people didn't use them the issue of bad driving/speeding would rapidly be solved - so that's what I do

Bet it will make bugger all difference as most of the riders won't have registered as using a moped, they will be registered as riding a bicycle.

Almost all of the electric bikes being used for these sort of services aren't road legal, if you see them exceeding 15.5mph. An ebike that is compliant with the law doesn't require insurance etc but is limited to 250w motor and 15.5mph top speed.

Same as any private e-bikes or scooters you see without lights and number plates but going quicker than that. They should all be seized and destroyed / recycled.

Couldnt agree more, ive never used one either, if i want a takeaway i collect it.
People have got so lazy.
I consider having a takeaway lazy in its self, and yes i do have one on occasion, but to not even pick it up is just wrong.

Pizza is something I don't order via delivery services... most chains run their own delivery services which are cheaper and have those bags that mean your food arrives hot.

I get the joke, but to be serious the risk with speeding e-bikes is more to the rider and less to others. I know a few people who've had some nasty falls from e-bikes.

Good for you, have a clap.

Now if you're finished on your high horse, for most of us, restaurants are located in the town centre and parking is £2.50 an hour plus the 15 mins to drive in if you're lucky (not to mention the fuel as the drive in isn't going to be efficient motorway driving). So that 5 mins easily stretches over an hour or more and then you've got to be careful because going a few minutes over 1 hour at the car park means parking is now £5... when it was already cheaper to get it deliveroo'd on just the fuel and 1 hours parking alone.

Also... delivery drivers are not the source of all bad driving/speeding... so if they disappeared overnight the situation on the roads would still be st.

Isn’t that exactly why it will work? They reach 28mph several times over the 2-3 mile ride and it flags up.

I travel a lot and the strangest phenomenon I have come across in regards to these food delivery services is just how many people have food delivered to hotels.

They're all on L plates and borrowing their friend Muhammad's driving license. Insurance is therefore invalid

Most are brand new N Max scooters on finance.

When I stayed in hotels regularly, especially the same ones, the menu did get very boring. I had food delivered occasionally, or I would walk to a nearby takeaway. Occasionally I would go to a supermarket and spend my meal allowance on basically just munchies laugh

I'm not following.

It's a 15 min drive there, 15 mins drive back. But the parking thing.... You'll only be parked for a few minutes surely, if you're just picking up a takeaway to take home? Or are you talking about going to a sit down restaurant? This thread is about takeaways though.

Even if you accept the often low quality most stop serving food after 8.30pm and once you've eaten your way through the 4-5 choices on the menu it gets dull very quickly.

All these gig economy parasites should be vicariously liable if the 'contractors' aren't properly insured or commit motoring offences; if they're profiting they should share the penalties.
