It is mind boggling, but some people get a bit touchy about religion (only their religion though).

Still, as long as the uk arms companies can still sell to them, and the oil flows, a lot can be overlooked.

Immediate thoughts are of disgust from top to bottom really. I’m sure others could come up with more reasoned responses but I’m happy to park it at contempt.

I’m not sure how you’d square stopping selling arms and buying oil on ethical grounds while simultaneously importing and welcoming vast numbers of people who wholeheartedly agree with this punishment.

I visit Saudi a lot and I have to admit that I find them incredibly friendly and welcoming and thought they’d chilled out with the more hardcore religious stuff.

Lucky bustards those Saudis why can't we do that here. All the government can do is arrest and months or years of worrying whether the perpetrator will end up in jail for years...

They have not, and they will not.

If absolutely needed they'll do a good approximation of moderacy for the sake of enticing Western visitors, but we will all be long in our boxes before anything approaching true moderation appears there.

Because we're an educated civilised liberal democracy, not a bunch of ignorant Neanderthals. (Well, most of us ...)

Indeed.

The UK has a long and proud history of selling weapons to murderous dictatorships.
