A small road is closed in Cambridgeshire, apparently because an engineer has pronounced it 'dangerous'.

However the only other route to a marina is too bumpy to get my car down. Therefore until the road is open again, myself and doubtless other people are unable to get to their boats (which we pay a large amount to the EA to be able to use)

Does anyone have a contact in Cambs CC I can approach about this? Thanks.

Email your local councillor - it's often the best route in . I did so recently , late on a Friday evening and the urgent problem was fixed the next day.CCC website should have details of who it is . Normally ,road closures have to be advertised beforehand BTW

Thanks. I managed to get through to Cambs CC, who told me the permit lasted until 2028 (!) but had no idea when the work would be complete. I reported the state of the diversion route but doubt that will get fixed any time soon.

However the marina owner, who's business is affected, says he's written to councillors and MPs and complained to the executive of the council. All said the same thing - they are doing structural inspections which should be complete by the end of the week for them for a plan to repair. Apparently it's been reported for five years but the council just patched it up until it got to a position where it's dangerous.

Doesn't look like I'll be getting much for the £700 I paid the EA for a river licence irked

highways@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or 0345 045 5212. Ask for the inspector's report and the legal traffic regulation order for the closure. If it's a public right of way, also try the Rights of Way team. For the marina access, the EA's navigation office for the Great Ouse is worth a call too.

They closed a road near for subsidence repairs. Four years later they’ve permanently closed it, despite it being one of only two roads into a Hamsterley village and Hamsterley Forest Park. Obviously a decent diversion to get there now.
Apparently you need about 300 journeys a day to justify its existence. It’s approximately £10million to repair. It seems crazy for councils to just give up on roads thatve sereved communities for centuries.
