Helpfully Amazon have summarised the components of the challenge I have - but I cant find the answer too......

We've a tight driveway, with a sandstone wall to turn past and in.
Dusk drawing in, and it is always hard to see the post (nearside) to see if cleared it.
We have a light on the building opposite, but of course withthe car making the turn, it blocks the light from shining on the corner of the sandstone wall.

SO:

what would be really handy, is a solar powered, 1 metre, outdoors / weatherproof, strip light, that activates on motion

add up all these components essentially:

I cant find such a thing on the internets. But can you ? (please)

The main issue is those units (the main battery and motion sensor) are far from waterproof. Otherwise I'd just say get a mall solar panel with a USB-C output and plug it in.

Otherwise, 4 of these in a row pointing down?

£15..... for all 4

These type of lights do actually work well. I have them on my garage.
You'll get two to three years out of them depending on how wet they get.

Would some reflectors work? Less to go wrong...

A motion sensor would be triggered by virtually everything passing. Difficult to limit unwanted triggering.
Why not use a device similar to what my garage roller door uses. A sender unit you press. It has multiple sender unit options so can be left in the car(s).
Press to put the light on when you need it then press to put it off.
You can use properly rated electrics for outdoor use either mains or solar.

Good suggestion - especially as I have one on the shelf unused. I was hoping for a more subtle way to light up or indicate the corner so it is seen in the wind mirrors. We are one of 6 houses on a lane, and subtle would be useful

agree on the less to go wrong, but no as it is over the shoulder, or outwith of the headlights beam where you want to make sure we are not turing in in on the wall IYSWIM

a Luminous rope would be a simple solution too..

And that I agree with - subtle! - maybe try one with tape over most of the lens?

Another thumbs up from me - we have a few of these dotted around and they’re surprisingly effective, much better than other solar PIRs I’ve tried.

but as others have said, it would be going on an off all the time lighting up the rural lane.

I just want a 'marker' to see where the wall is. Not 'illimunation (well, in the truth - the OH does !)

But they are PIR, not on all the time - or do you have a lot of passing traffic of one sort or another?

We use some cheap solar ones from Amazon to highlight a step when it's dark.
They stay on all night and whilst the light is enough so you notice it it hardly "lights up" the area. It's just enough so you notice and don't trip up.

Anything picked up by the PIR will trigger the light. As the wall the OP is talking about is on his boundary to the street outside can a PIR be set to compensate? Mask unwanted traffic areas. We have two. One over the front that can get triggered by passer by people/traffic. It's 10 yards back yet setting it fails to limit triggering. It's solar powered. The other is on the side path, mains powered. Works well due to walls and high fence. Limited space for the sensor to monitor.
Our neighbour has one on his side of the fence by that path. It triggers when we go out to the garden...handy at night! It's positioned high up and not in the best place. The sensor overlooks the our house corner/patio .

we do have 'lighting' out there - permanent lantern to the OS of the car - but "the wall" is then in the shadow of the car so not illuminated, and a forward RIng camera with light, but also does not cast light on the location due to shrubbery....

thanks all for the ideas though

Would a strip of retroreflective material help?

probably not.
A stip of luminous would. but rather garish.

Just told the OH to drive with a light pressure on the brake pedal. Lights up behind the car and you can see in the wing mirror the glow of the red in the gap between car body and wall. (or not and your'e fked)

but thats not a 'solution' apparently.
