Using Smartphone After Security Updates Abandoned

So my trusty Samsung S22 Ultra will no longer be receiving security updates as of next year. It hasn't received any sort of update for some time now, which I know is a trick tech companies use to force you into a new phone. The thing is the phone was £1200.00 and to only last 4 years is pretty poor.

If I remove google wallet, banking apps, shopping apps etc. from the phone, what risk am I at of potential data leaks, viruses, hacks etc?

Samsung only support their phones for five years, which is why we recently switched to Google phones. They get seven years' support.

Yours will continue to work perfectly well for two or three years yet. Eventually, your banking apps will stop working, and that's when you know it's time to change.

I wouldn't worry too much, my Samsung only gets updates every 3 months as it is.
What most people don't realise is the length of support isn't from when you buy the phone it's from the date of release which can be a good time apart.
I'm old enough to remember when you were lucky to get 1 year of security updates and 1 android OS update and that was it

I think the S22 gets 4 years OS and 5 years security updates and I believe it was from the S24 onward that 7 years of both became standard.

Surely these things are known when buying? So not sure this is such a surprise. Is it a surprise that the phone is still useable, as in my experience, batteries are shot after 3 years.

Recently changed my S21 at 5 years old due to the "no longer receiving updates" issue and the battery was fine in mine. I have an old Oneplus 5 (mainly used as an alarm clock now) which is 9 years old and the battery in that still holds a decent charge.

Must be just me then. After 2 years my phone battery doesn't last all day. After 3 years, it lasts half a day. I am perhaps a heavy user as I don't use a laptop for other computing needs, it's all phone based. I'm typing this on my phone.
