Despite being 39 next week, I still get money for my birthday like a kid. My dad gets offended if I spend it on living expenses, so I’ve decided to get a PS5 ready for GTA V.
Which one would people get? Standard thick (so second hand), thin or pro? I’m very out of the console game at the moment so have no idea.
Would getting a second hand one from eBay be sensible or stupid? I don’t really want to risk FB marketplace for something like this.
I’d ideally like a disc drive as I think you can play PS3 games on it and I’ve got a hankering for little big planet!
Also, is it me, or are prices insane at the moment?

For what it’s worth I got a standard one with an extra controller and having used it for nearly a year I wouldn’t have bothered with the disc player or the extra controller now.
Streaming is everything these days and especially if you do PS+ you’ll be downloading games anyway. And in person multiplayer games don’t really seem to exist anymore which I find very disappointing.

I was hoping to get one with a disc so we can play the ps4 games we have on it?
Also means we can use it as a blue ray player (for any old DVD s)
It s a shame about multiplayer games not being much of a thing now.
He loves playing Tekken with friends.

I bought a reject / damaged slim from Currys this month for £411. Via their ebay page. No box and the white plastic casing was slightly wonky (I popped it back into place). Couldn't justify the premium for a Pro.

I've come to the conclusion the saving of a second hand one over new these days isn't enough to be worth it.
Having watched enough repair videos online where all the liquid metal is in a pool at the bottom due to the PS5 having been run standing upright, or _many_ others where the HDMI ports are completely f
ked (I guess people are just ham-fisted animals), i'm getting a new one.

I wouldn’t replace it if they were still making games for it.
It’s frustrating that the PS5 is now so much more than it was a year ago.

I doubt Black Friday will reduce the current cost by much as it coincides with the release of GTA

I bought a second hand ps5 from eBay a couple of months ago. Disc version. Came in box with leads and controller all in good nick. £220, which I thought was a decent price.
I like the disc drive as I bought a few games from CEX for £5 each, which is better than the £25 each they are to download.

As far as I'm aware, PS5 disc drives are blu ray only, and won't play DVDs. They certainly don't play CDs
