Reaching out to the techie experts of the collective.

I have a run of the mill dekstop which has an on board soundcard, and up until they gave up, I was running a set of very old creative speakers with a headphone jack.

I've since replaced the old speakers with a set of cheapies from Argos, but the headphone volumes are low and it won't go above a set sound , which is equivalent to my Beats phones I occasionally use, as such the volume level is pretty poor. The speaker volume when cranked up is quite loud though, but the headphone volume doesn't correlate.

I've tried all the settings tricks etc to no avail.

So i'm looking for a speaker set up, with a phone jack which allows me to crank up the volume for the headphones which is equivalent or on par to the speakers.i'm aware loud volumes can cause hearing issues, but it is only occasionally that I need the volume to be quite loud.

All and any suggestions gratefully appreciated, budget to around £150 ish for a decent set of PC speakers.

USB headphone amp. Connects to PC via, as the name suggests, USB. Provides various input and outputs depending on how much you want to spend.

You can get one that's powered and drives regular speakers, plus has headphones out, so you can replace your entire setup.

That being said, you could easily get something over powered.
How about this:

and these:

As starting points to think about.

The speakers themselves look to have headphone out, so you could ditch the amp entirely and run better, powered speakers.

I have some steelseries arctis wireless headphones ( headset) and they go way louder than I'd ever be able to tollerate. They rely on their own wireless dongle that plugs into one of the PC speaker outputs.

You can get 2.1 speaker systems for computer use which have headphone jacks. Sometimes the headphone jack is in a separate wired volume control so you can place the speakers wherever and have a conveniently placed volume controller into which you can plug headphones when the need arises. I have exactly this with some old Razer Mako speakers. Otherwise one of the satellite speakers which have the volume control and a headphone jack, like the Creative Pebbl X plus: https://au.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-pebble...

+1 for this
I have the arctis pros with the usb dac, plug and play and all my audio is adjusted from the dac so easy to use. Steel series GG is good to use too and has audio presets for different games.
They are also mega comfy.

Recommended to a friend who is very picky and he absolutely loves them too

I have these too. They're very good.

I also use their ear buds (with dongle), which prefer.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.beer

I think that a dongle / new speaker set up is the way forward, which may push me over my budget but I do use my PC for listening and watching an awful lot, so it'll be a worthwhile spend.

looking at the Onara speakers, they have a USB C which is the connection my wired Sony earbuds have , which I occasionally use while recharging my Beats - I take it that it'll work with my Earbuds?.
