New M5 incoming - Insurance/Immobiliser question

Hello

I’ll be taking delivery of a new M5 next week, insured with admiral who haven’t requested any further security measures to insure the car ( replacing an i5).

I’ve had a few quick and expensive cars on my multi car policy but this is the most expensive and likely quick so investigating options like Ghost and other trackers.
The supplying dealer suggested the BMW Tracker which is a fob carried but looking at the app reviews for BMW Security there are all 1* reviews.
So looking for real world examples. Having just read R35 Boxster thread and mods to CAN its made me quite indecisive as to touching it at all and just buying a visible theft delay device..

Would value thoughts.

The car will be garaged so that’s one thing I suppose.

Do not alter the Can, bmw will void any Warrantee, they in general do not like Ghost and could blame it on some fault or other, check with your dealership as to IF a ghost it acceptable . Many Trackers are easily blocked, do your homework.

Supplying dealer has confirmed Ghost is not approved.
Insurance co ask if it’s got an immobiliser (it has a factory one) and that seems ok for their purpose.

On the tracker question, do you think that you’d actually want it back if it’s been stolen?

Unfortunately, if someone wants to steal it, they will be breaking into your house for the keys if they know you have it in the garage. Parking elsewhere, I would go with the visual deterrent of the diskloc.

Disklok is sold out! Someone is taking those quite seriously, Amazon only had them for left hand drive cars.

I think Halfords online have stock. If you get one get the steering wheel cover too as that should help prevent indentations from the Disklok on your steering wheel. I think some do come with a bag and a cover so just check.

I bought my diaklok from Halfords they usually have stock, agree with the point above get the steering wheel cover they do as well before putting a lock on because it definately prevents indentations. Been using one on my M4 since I got it 3 years ago.

I only use it when I’m leaving the car overnight because my main concern is when it’s at home I also keep the disclok key seperate from the car keys.

I got an X5 earlier this year and required a tracker for insurance purposes. I went with a dealer fitted one and on the one occasion I’ve used my car without the fob it has contacted me to ask if my car is secure. Not sure what more you’d want from a tracker?!

I also fit a crook lock when I park somewhere a bit dodgy.

Halfords have a small one - and £140 more than Amazon which only have the LHD steering wheel. Not sure why they are selling those to UK customers!

I’m going to find/buy the diskloc and noted about the cover for the steering wheel too.

I reran my insurance quote with admiral on the car and the insurance was an extra £148 over my existing i5 and no need for a tracker.

You need a MetaTrak S5 Deadlock Pro. It s an immobiliser and tracker with a deadlock function that means even if they have the fob the car won t start or if they do take it you can immobilise it when it next stops.

I ve used MetaTrak for years, their service is excellent. I can suggest someone to supply and fit that I ve used on £100k+ cars for years if you want? He fits it on your drive in a couple of hours.

Mine has been in use for the last 25 years on various cars I had over the years, steering wheel cover is a must and if you are putting it in the boot they have a very good storage case which has velcro at the bottom so does not move about.
